Rifle Scopes Scope height above bore measurement????

Re: Scope height above bore measurement????

One way to do this with the stock removed and the scope mounted...

Measure the top of scope bell to the bottom of the barrel and subtract the following - Measure the scope bell diameter and 1/2 it - Measure the barrel diameter (below the scope) and 1/2 it.

If that makes sense

Thats how I do it on bolt guns but any tricks for AR's??? Also, do you guys use center of bore to center of scope or center of scope to top of bore measurements?? I am prolly splitting hairs here but just wondering as I always try to be precise!

Re: Scope height above bore measurement????

I have developed a 4-step procedure for getting this most crucial of measurements. Be sure to read all the way though the steps before starting. It is somewhat complicated so if you get lost, feel free to PM me and I'll try to walk you through it:

1. Find a ruler
2. Lay ruler across scope and action
3. Read the measurement on the ruler from center of scope to center of action
4. Put ruler away

The results are definitely worth the extra effort.

Good luck,
Erik

Re: Scope height above bore measurement????

My usual visual answer to this question. Center of windage knob to center of bore which is usually stock height or the relief hole. Get within .1" if you plan on shooting inside 100 as the height above bore is more important at those close ranges. I have used this method for years and have shot from 11 feet to 1650 yards using it. It works fine.
