Scope Height AR-10T

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

I'm using TPS 30mm rings that are 1.225" high on my Noveske N6( Armalite pattern). There about as low as you want to go. (scope info :30mm tube, 3.5-15X50mm)

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

If you can provide the specs on your scope, it'd be easier to tell you what height rings you can get away with for the lowest possible scope height. Specifically, we'll need to know the scope tube diameter as well as the outside diameter of the bell (and whether than measurement is with or without butler creek covers or other covers if you plan to use them).

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

The scope is a Burris XTR 6-24x50 (30mm)

The tricky part about scoping the AR platform is the straight comb height of the stocks relationship to the reciever, I just don't know what height rings would give me the lowest comfortable cheek weld.

I have scoped plenty of ARs in my time...trust me when I tell you that you want the scope as low as you can get it on an AR-10 with the bell clearing the handguard (or top rail of the handguard).

Your scope has an approx. OD at the bell of 2.4" (61mm) if you assume you'll be running lens covers (you can assume a little small without them). SO...

[(61mm OD - 30mm Scope Tube)]/2= 15.5mm OR 0.6102"

The minimum ring height, base to bottom of the ring, is 0.61". Or...depending on the mfg of the rings, you'll need 1.201" rings from the base to the center of the ring.

Those measurements also assume that you are running a railed handguard. If you are running the newer, aluminum AR-10T FF handguard, you can actually go a hair lower than that because the top of the HG is lower than the top of the receiver rail.

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

I found this video, it shows a very low scope mounting position, much lower than I thought would work.

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

Check out my post here.

I found that the LaRue LT-107 with 30MOA of forward cant gives me great eye relief, maximum travel, and puts the 42mm bell of my S&B (with ARD) very close to the LaRue handguard (with Magpul rail covers on it).

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

After looking at the video more carefully, Lowlight says "low rings" and they are Talley tactical, so they are 1.000" to center, so the GG&G rings I am thinking about are 1.120" so I should be okay.

Re: Scope Height AR-10T

i shoot a freinds ar10t and i have a hard time getting into his rifle and he does not you have to take into account your bone structure i would say his rings are about the same as pictured above he has small cheak bones and i must not it makes it tuff on me (i do love that rifle though)

Just remember that the outside diameter of the USO's bell is smaller than your Burris so the USO will mount with lower rings than your Burris will.
