I was sighting in today and my dial maxed out to the right. I have never had this happen before. I don't even know anyone who has had this happen. Luckily it ended up just where I needed it and I was able to continue firing. Besides physically moving the scope, how do I fix this??

Are you sure your mounts are aligned correctly? If you have a windage type base that could be the problem. Most times this will be mounting issues. If you have another scope, mount it on the rifle and see if you get the same result. If it works fine then it is possibly a scope related issue.
I had this problem with an IOR scope, sent it back to Valdada and had a new one lickedy split.

I'm thinking if I aim my rifle say 10 yards (whatever measurement) to the left of the target, then dial the reticle an equal 10 yards to the left more, that would put my cross hairs right back on target, and give me more play with the dial to the right sense I just dialed it so much to the left. Make sense?

#2: Can you take some photos of youre mounts, scope on rifle and post them..
#3: I have never heard of someone putting a muzzle brake on a 17HMR. And now I'm kinda curious to see that.
#4: I bet it's in your mounts or the way you have it mounted. I kinda doubt the scopes screwed up but you never know..
#5: This is a silly question but don't get ruffled because I ask it? Is the scope 90 degrees off? ( As in the elevation turret is on the side and the windage turret on top? ) We have seen this happen..SmokeRolls

Did you bed the rifle? I'm thinking either there is something wedged on the side of the barrel pushing to the left or a bad bedding job doing the same. How does it shoot without the brake? Did the crown get jacdked up when it was threaded? Try another scope. Eliminated the variables one at a time. I doubt it is the scope as it did correct eventually with adjustment. Does it do it with the bipod off as well as on?

It has worked fine before, but I just stuck my cleaning rod down through the muzzle brake and into the barrel and found that the muzzle brake had shifted a little to the right. This may be causing my bullets to hook so far to the left. I'm going out tomorrow to see how it is without that piece of crap. I'll post results.

Also we just stood over top of the rifle and you could see that the scope was off ever so slightly to the right. Thanks for the advice guys. We'll see how she does tomorrow.

So we removed the muzzle brake, turned the windage turret back to the center, and realigned the scope so it is now straight on. If that doesn't do it then I don't know what will. I guess I'll just re-zero the windage turret farther to the left so I have more play to the right. But I also doubt it's an issue with the scope.

There's a company I found online (I wish I saved it cause I don't remember their name) that makes muzzle brakes specicically for the Marlin 917s. They actually cut the barrel and do it up right. But it costs like $300 and takes 4 - 6 weeks before you get your rifle back.

my volquartsen superlight .17 hmr came with a muzzle brake.

Mounts have slop.
Pull scope, loosen and push mounts the other way.
Try again.
Find a happy place.

I didn't think the 17hmr moved at all when you shoot it. I don't thing my savage 17hmr bull barrel moves when shot. I guess if you want it louder you could add a muzzlebrake but I don't see why it's needed...Hey more power to you, free country at least for today.. SmokeRolls
