I'm looking for a quality scope mount for my new Night Force NXS F1 3.5-15 x 50. I want to be able to have a quick detach feature that will also hold zero when the scope is placed back on the rifle. I'm new to this high-end-scope-stuff so if you guys could give new a list of your top, say, 3-5 scope mounts that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Scope Mount for Night Force (30mm tube)

Is this for a bolt action rifle or a semi-auto rifle?

How quickly do you want to be able to detach it from the rifle? For what purpose?

Will be removing this optic to run another one such as NV or a lower power optic?

The answers to these questions will just help narrow the field a little bit so that you can get a mount that will work to your expectations. My first inclination is to say get a Nightforce Uni-mount if you are running a semi-auto platform. It has slope built in and with a 1/2" wrench can be detached quite easily. The LaRue SPR-S mount is another potential option if you are running a semi-auto. However, I'd say that if you are just running this on a bolt gun, stick with the NF UL rings that came with the scope.

Re: Scope Mount for Night Force (30mm tube)

I am running this scope on a bolt gun at the moment.

I want to be able to attach and detach the scope from the gun in about 2-4 seconds in order to pack up my rifle to move to a different hide.

I would really like to have a throw lever type of scope mount, but I'm not sure how this will affect my overall accuracy once the scope is removed

Re: Scope Mount for Night Force (30mm tube)

Due to my mission, I have a Gunslinger II pack that I use to trasport my long-gun in while I carry an M-4. The long-gun gets jostled pretty good during my missions and I don't want the scope (which is my personal scope) to get the same treatment while I'm on the move (which is quite often and can be over great distances).

What is your mission?

Hmm well let me say this.. I have a lot of experience doing exactly what you described and IMO there it is far worse to detach your optic then it is for it to be in a GS II. If you cinch the straps down on the GS it will hold the rifle stable.

What rifle/optic are you running? Why so worried about the scope being in a padded case and being damaged?

Re: Scope Mount for Night Force (30mm tube)

I'm running a Rem 700 Tactical with a Night Force NXS F1 3.5-15 x 50. I just bought the GS II and wasn't sure whether this jostling would create any problems for the scope.

Your scope will be fine, that NF can handle a ton more then what that GS II will do. Cinch the side straps down and move out.

Depending upon what you actually do, I wouldn't consider a detachable mount that you intend to use every time you move. There is normally a considerable zero shift. And like I said depending upon your "mission" that may not be the best option. There is a reason that you don't normally see quick detach mounts on precision bolt guns.
