Hello everyone,
New poster here and new to long range shooting. A good friend that served as a USMC sniper platoon leader 2002-2007 turned me onto LRS. I’ve been shooting and hunting with Rem700s for a few years but they’ve all been stock from the store - scope pre-mounted and calibrated at the store.

I’m now trying to complete an American Sniper build, with a goal of targeting +2500yds eventually.

I have had a gunsmith mimic as closely as possible the specs for Chris Kyle’s Rem700win300 from here: http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/01/17/american-sniper-chris-kyle-rifles/
I have almost everything, including the Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 scope but I’ve balked at the MIRS and 20 MOA scope mount.

Is 20 MOA enough to hit targets 2000-3000yds or do I need 60-100 MOA?

My USMC buddy is traveling and I’m awaiting his response on correct MOA for the NXS mount and figured I’d get some opinions/knowledge from the good folks here.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I'll assume that you're serious.

The 300 Win Mag is generally considered to have a maximum effective range of 1500 yards. If you lack the experience to intuitively see why, you can use an online ballistic calculator to get a rough idea. Here's one: https://www.hornady.com/team-hornady/ballistic-calculators/#!/4dof

Choosing the Sierra 30 Cal 220 Match King bullet and a muzzle velocity of 2850 fps, the calculator will report that you'd need over 250 MOA to reach 3000 yards (because the bullet needs 8 seconds to get that far, over which time it'll drop around a thousand feet).

Appreciate response - *was* serious but your post made me realize I’m way wrong. Like I said - new to this. I dropped some money on Kyle’s 1000yd rifle but not the one i was looking for.

Thanks for pointing me in right direction mate.
