I just got my Nikon Monarch 3-12x42SF and this thing has a huge ocular lens in the rear mounted on a R700 Varmint 308, basically the same barrel profile as a 700P, on a McMillan HTG forest camo stock.
She's a heavy bitch all right.
The optic sits so low to the barrel that I don't have enough room to mount a Butler Creek on the front. The kicker is the rear. The bolt is a regular R700 bolt with no tactical knob, and when I open the bolt and bring it back, it's less than a millimeter from the rear section of the scope. So much that I can't put any flip-ups on the rear or the bolt knob will knock it off.
It's on a 1-pc M40A1 type 20moa canted base with Leupold dual dovetail LOW rings.
I think I'm gonna have to up these rings to medium...
What do you guys think?
