Scope mounting for 1,000 yard shooting

Hey guys,
Apologies for the newb question but I just picked up a Tikka T3x TAC 6.5CM and will be mounting a Nightforce 7-35x56 scope on it. Am wondering what the best rings are for mounting the scope? Should I go with Nightforce X-Treme Duty 34mm 1.00" or maybe the Unimount 20 MOA? I've always heard keep the rings as low as possible just enough so the scope clears the barrel. Also, a recommendation on ring height would be greatly appreciated. I definitely will not be doing a ton of shooting at 1,000 yards so I need to be able to do everything in between 100 yards to 1,000 yards. Thanks in advance!

The nightforce rings will work. As will vortex/ seekins PMR rings. Burris signature rings also seem to work. I run low rings on all my stuff.
Mount your scope as level as possible to your action. I do it aiming at a plumb level at 100 yards. The farther out you your plumb line is the better.

model will depend on needed height. Put scope on rail and stack card/coins in between scope and rifle until desired height is achieved. Measure that height and order at least that or greater. Keep in mind some manufacturers have height to center of tube some to bottom of scope tube. Midwayusa usually have the Measurements rail to bottom of tube

how sure are you that you won’t want to shoot further than 1000 in the future?

I quickly found out that 1000 gets boring fast and I got the bug to shoot further.

It is more important that you are comfortable approaching the scope and establishing good eye relief than height over bore. If you need higher rings to feel comfortable, use higher rings. You can calculate the additional height into your ballistic calculator.
Vortex/Seekins Precision / Nightforce Titanium are both good choices. It is worth spending the extra and getting good rings, that will not loosen or allow the scope to shift. If you want to spent more, then MPA Mount or SPHUR are great choices.

I have that exact rifle and Scope mil-xt. I mounted it with a Spuhr sp-4602 20moa 1.5 in height. I have about 1/8 inch between objective lens cap and rail.

Spuhr is what I use but I also use the Vortex rings. Make sure to torque everything to spec and check periodically

Nightforce is our most recommended for a set-up like that. The rings are super high quality and you optical centerline should be at that 1.00 height for that scope.

If you want to spent more, then MPA Mount or SPHUR are great choices.

I'm a fan of the MPA mount. It is a more-than-solid single mount and is reasonably priced compared to others.

The tac A1 would have a 20moa base already right (I don't own one so I'm taking a guess here)? 0moa rings would be fine. I have a factory 20moa rail on my 6.5 with 0moa rings and still have plenty of internal elevation to go past 1000m easily. Talking metres here cause we talk and shoot in metres not yards here in Australia.

Reiterating the point about the scope base. Do you have one and is it 20 moa or 0? You only really need 20moa with what you're targeting so either in the base or in the mount/rings.

Scope height doesn't need to be sweated unless you don't have an adjustable cheek piece. Run 1000 yards through your ballistic calculator with 1" and 3" scope height and see what comes back. Playing it too close can cause issues fitting your sun shade and/or caps, so just gotta get it right.

Also +1 for MPA mounts. Killer quality at a good price point, and lots of options. I run a couple.
