I am glad to see scope prices starting to come down. Just bought a new Nightforce 2.5-10 mildot with mil adj and Larue LT-104 for $1350 shipped. Now I am looking for a SB or another Nightforce. I prefer to buy used but the used prices seem to be more or the same as the new prices.

Best of luck on finding what you want. Prices are holding or going up from what I am seeing.

maybe some of us just want them more

Re: Scope prices

Its a safe payment plan. Drop a few bucks a week in the bottom of the safe and eventually the money will be there. Really this is what I've done on most of my purchases and it has worked pretty good.

Re: Scope prices

I think the high end scopes (S&B, Premier, etc.) "peaked" at the start of 2008. They have since come back to their pre-run-up prices.
For instance, I have lately seen a number of S&Bs selling in the mid $2Ks that would have been closer to $3k a year ago. Similarly, the PHs were selling in the mid $2Ks and can be had today for $2K or less.
This isn't to say that inflation is in our future and you can almost count on prices (of everything) going up.
My advice is to get now while the getting is good.

Re: Scope prices

I think a lot of it has to do on the economy. A few have asked the model I got was the NXS 2.5-10x32. I love it. I like the lower mag levels because when objects are close and moving it is hard to get a sight picture on higher magnifications. even on my 50cal I have a 3.5-15 power I give up some accuracy on very long ranges but I can hit a 18" target all day.

I agree, expensive scopes are hard to sell in a recession where there are alternatives (such as a quality used scope on SH). In addition, the euro came down about 7% and has remained fairly steady, reducing the dollar price of an S&B from a year ago. There have been some relatively good prices on S&Bs from Mile High Shooting and from Matt in Virginia. On the other hand, NF appears to be increasing prices and reestablishing itself at a new price point. I look forward to SHOT this year to see what Lowlight has been hinting about.

Good advice, I've been doing just that when a good opportunity came along in the SH emporium. Next week I will be putting a lot of gear up for sale to pay for my Sins!

Re: Scope prices

Yes I almost bought a SB PMII but I ended up buying a AW 338 with one mounted on it. Very nice scope but I am very happy with the Nightforce for the price difference. If I can get a very good deal on a SB I will take it. I hate to pay over $2000 for it though.

Re: Scope prices

Lots of reasons, in new scopes prices have gone up in most of them due to the falling dollar, and the fact that the majority of their components come from overseas, so they are paying more for the parts to build the scope. Some have come down a bit due to the falling Euro as well.

Used scope prices continue to amaze me what people will pay for a used optic that in most cases has no warranty and unknown history. Most of them on this board are priced within 5% of what you can buy them for new from a dealer, especially if you make a couple of calls, in many cases MORE than what you can get them from with a couple of calls, it's a joke. I don't blame the seller, price it as the market will give, if people are dumb enough to pay it, good for the seller. Myself I'll never give $2000 for a used scope with no warranty that I can buy new for $2200 from a dealer with warranty.

In many cases if you use coupons or say ebays live 8% discount, or consider the free rings many dealers throw in the used scopes on the for sale section end up being MORE than a new scope from a authorized dealer with warranty. In fact finding a scope actually priced less then 90% of new is so rare I don't even bother to waste my time looking anymore. The amount of time you'd have to spend to not only find, but then be the first guy to jump on a good deal it worth way way more than the money saved ever would be.

Re: Scope prices

certainly alot more competitors-- price increases can be caused by decreasing sales, while fixed operating base remains same or increases. if it doesn't come from the factory its used-- can't believe some of the used prices here.
