let me start by saying I understand quality. I own a granite company and in order for me to stay competitive I put an enormous amount of effort into my quality. In my line f work you can see the quality when you walk I the room.. 2 company's can have the exact same stone from the exact same distributor but the finished product can be night and day simply based on workmanship...

On to my question what's the difference between scope rings.
for instance the below set is $30 weaver aircraft aluminum

you know the below set $180

so is one really better than the other.

I'm working on getting a set of night force rings rite now because I want a good set of rings and I believe that you get what you pay for. I still wonder is one really better than the other Am I paying for a name? or am I really getting $200 worth

If you get NF, you are paying for the name to some extent. But, all quality rings will cost ~ >$120. Quality rings (Seekins, Badger, NF, Vortex, APA, etc.) are machined to extremely precise spec and tolerances. Provided you mount them right, they will leave very little and often no rings marks on your scope. There is no need to lap them or any of that nonsense. The manufacturers stand by the high end stuff; I have found that is not the case with lower end products.

You get what you pay for.

Over the years I've gone from looking at scope rings from the perspective of "anything will do", to more of a "give me the best I can get". I figure that although scope rings are unexciting, unassuming, simple pieces of metal that connect the scope to the gun, bad ones could still form the weak link in a chain of parts that might otherwise be great. To me there are some limitations though: I wouldn't throw my $300 Weaver scope in a $400 Spuhr mount, nor would I throw my Schmidt and Bender in a set of $30 Weaver rings. But, to a certain extent you really do get what you pay for. My current rig consists of an $820 gun with a $3,400 S&B scope, and a $400 Spuhr one-piece mount between the two. It shoots better than anything I've ever put together in the past, and I only hope for even better results if I someday upgrade the gun.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think I might just be more experienced now... in the past I'd have skimped on the optics and mounting solution while spending all of the big money on the gun. These days I feel that the optics deserve priority, and that the gun can be a bit cheaper. All in all though, I want to make sure that I'm not handicapping an otherwise fine setup by throwing a crappy set of rings between the two most critical parts! For my money it just seems like the tolerances and quality control are better with the more expensive rings/mounts.

Having a Burris one piece mount for my mid-priced mouse gun, I'm completely happy with it. It was a more pricey 'low-end' mount. For my .308 gas gun, with much better optic, I purchased a JP mount, which was over 250% more expensive. The material and machining quality is significantly better. If you're expecting to squeeze every bit of capability out of gun+optic setup, the rings are worth the investment, for a mid-range/grade pinker, a comparable quality set of rings would adequately work. Also, this is merely my opinion.

Well here is what I have..

I bought a NF 3.5-15 NXS Mil/Mil-MLR and NF rings the one piece kind. I also got a NF angle gauge (had this for a while). Also a USO bubble level (I have had this for a while too).

This will be going on my TIKKA T3 tactical 24" barrel.

I am in the process of setting up to reload so I can develop my own loads..

I Have never had a set f rings that cost more than $50.. Well I guess I have never had a scope that cost more than $600 eater..

Don't worry, with the way these Tikka rifles shoot you'll quickly find yourself pouring plenty of money into them. I have my $820 Tikka rifle outfitted with a $3,400 scope and a nearly $400 mount. It's worth it :)

I had a tikka T3 about 8 years ago 20" it had a Nikon scope on it and I loved it. When times got hard I had to sell it. It was the only rifle I ever regretted selling. I have had Remington 700's an Ithaca .243 (manufactured by tikka if I'm not mistaken) Howa and Ruger riles and I never had any problem selling or trading any of them.. When I sold my Tikka T3 it broke my heart. Putting food on the table always comes before fun...

Now I'm getting my first REAL optics and I cant wait
