Scoping Michell's Mausers K98

I've got a Michell's Mausers K98 that I purchased a number of years ago that is also a pretty accurate shooter. I knew a little at the time about Michell's Mausers and how they may have done some false advertising on how they're guns are authentic, I didn't care...I still don't. I bought it to shoot and walk around in the hills, not as a collectors item, and it shoots well like I said before.

I'd like to put a scope on it, and since a lot of collectors shy away from these rifles, I'm not afraid about tapping the receiver. My question is, what scope mount should I get for it. I was going to buy a replica German scope along with a replica mount, but found that they are mostly made in china. So then after some thinking I settled on getting a custom Leupold 6x36mm with the German #1 recital, much better scope for the money compared to the replica stuff imho. Now the Leupold scope has a 1 inch tube, to the best of my knowledge, the actual Mauser scope mounts do not have 1" rings. With that in mind, what kind of accurate scope mount would some of you recommend and how would some of you do a project like this?

These look like good quality and will match your 1" scope. There are probably a few my side of the pond if you get stuck?

One thin to watch with a post ret. is the tenancy to shoot high in low light conditions - you creep the post 'up' until you can see it, just an observation.

Did you purchase the scope already? If not you can always purchase a commercial period Zielvier or Hensoldt scope to make it more correct. As far as mounts go, if you are trying to build a replica sniper there are several different variants:

-Low Turret
-High Turret
-Short Side Rail (3 types)
-Long Side Rail (band style and split ring)
-Single Claw
-Double Claw
-Objective Mount

And even a few others that use smaller optics (Sweptback and Zf-41)

You can still use reproduction mounts and a 1" scope with spacers. Accumounts, the company that makes the majority of these reproduction mounts offers spacers for 1" scope with most of them.

Here are a few of mine.....

I haven't purchased anything yet. I thought about getting a commercial period Zielvier or Hensoldt, but I'm worried about the condition of these older scopes. Will they fog up / get condensation inside, or hold zero after lots of shooting?

I haven't had any problems with any of mine. However, I can understand your concern.

Is your rifle an actual full length 98 or the intermediate length from Yugoslavia? If you are not worried about collection value, and it is the intermediate, Farrell makes a rail mount for it specifically. Everyone makes mounts for the full length Mauser action. Two piece mounts for the 98 will work for the Yugo. You will need the receiver drilled and tapped. Make sure the drilling is done based on the bore alignment.
