Here's a few pictures from the fishing charters I'm running this summer. I have been booked for weeks on end but the fishing has been good. This is a Lingcod, and a sizeable one at that. They eat whole 5lb. rockfish for lunch. Fillets are nice clean white meat and cook up more flavorful and moist than halibut.

These are Yelloweye Rockfish. They are fairly common in the same areas that the Lingcod frequent. Mid depth snaggy pinnicles are their favorite. We fish for them in 90-200feet of water. They are very old and slow growing fish. These two could be 40-60 years old. I almost feel bad for killing old fish but nobody catches them much around here. They are dying of old age. Delicious! Hope you enjoy the pictures.

DAMN Jason!!!

That ling cod is a monster. GOOD eats there.

I need to get out with you bro. I took the wife out last weekend in one of the rentals. it was a good time, but ended up with one cod, one lil halibut, and one rock fish. when I got done cleaning I had a large heaping dinner plate of fillets, pretty pitiful for the time spent. With the rental and time spent, price per pound was about what Island seafood charges, so its all good...well maybe just a little more. hehaa

I am going to drop a skate next time. Deer season is coming so its about filling the freezer now.

Those yellow eye are very cool.

Re: Sea Dragon

If that is Josh and Lukes place, I've been there. Tell them James from Pensacola said hi. Shortdraw, that is a monster Ling.

You guys have a great thing up there - I couldn't take the winters, but I love the summers there! That is a couple pics from an outing a bunch of us made a couple years ago. </div></div>

Re: Sea Dragon

It is. The family has built quite a place there. I think more of it as their Dads place, he played ball with one of my buddies dad back many years ago. It was a damn pleasure listening to two old warriors recall tales about the old days.

Much scotch was drinken, and many fucks not given that week. Shortdraw, sorry for the sidetrack, drinks on us next time we are in Kodiak.

Mike, my friend and I went out for our yearly subsistence halibut run yesterday. 10 minute run in my little boat and 40 halibut in 4 hours. They were all rod and reel. We don't put out a skate anymore because you'd have to pull it as soon as you drop it and what fun would that be??? We ended up with just under 400lbs of fillets. If you have your SHARC card, we can get out there and fill your freezer. I am working for the next 14 days but I have evenings open and I'd love to take you out there.

Are those guys out on Afognak or Raspberry Island? I recognize the boat. Nice day of fishing for sure!

Afognak. I think it is called Seal Bay. I hunted Brown Bears with them several years ago. Are you out of Kodiak? I remember watching an Orca come up into the marina in Kodiak and harass the seals until one went in the water. Ate it right there in front of a crowd. Pretty awesome place you live. I am jealous. I have friends in SE Alaska and have helped them set and pull a skate. Holy hell is that a lot of work. I've never had a bad day of fishing in Alaska but I think right where you are at is some of the best.

Re: Sea Dragon

Yes, I fish from the port of Kodiak. I have been fishing near Afognak much of the summer, south to Ugak, and plenty right here by town. The fishing is world class for sure. Friends and clients have pending IGFA world records on several species.
