Guys I'm trying to get a little more distance out of my 308 and am tring the 155 Lapua's. I know all rifles are different but was wondering if there were any good OALs you all could suggest. I've tried .020 and .025 off lands but the results were poor. Also I was trying to get about 2,950 fps out of a 22" barrel. The most I've been able to get is in the high 2,800's with 44.5 grains of Varget. When I shot 45 grains of Varget the velocity didn't increase. Have I reached a max at 44.5 grains? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Seating depth for 155 Lapua

Did you notice any pressure signs when you went to the 45 grs of Varget? I have a 19 inch barrel, but im using the 155 scenars and 45.7 grains of RE15 and getting a consistent 2850-2875. But i just seat mine shy of the mag length, so roughly around 2.94. The 155s i have played with havent minded a jump, but i havent begun to even kiss the lands in my 308 nor do i have any inclination to do so.

I shoot the 155,s in my Surgeon and have had the best results when I load .005 into the lands.
Also have seen the SD and ES numbers get smaller.
I was able to get 2950 fps out of it , but that was max in my 26" barrel.

Deadly, I didn't see any pressure signs on the 45's. I have loaded 5 with 46 grains and 5 with 46.6 grains. I could feel the bullet crush the powder on the 46.6 grain group. I havent' fired these yet and am not looking forward to the latter group. My goal was to get to 1,500 yds with this rifle. Am I expecting too much form a 22" 308?

I use 47.8 gr with an OAL of 2.943 (or 0.015 from the lands) and get 2925-2950 fps in my M700 M40 with 24" barrel.

Watch for pressure signs on the way up, this load is right at the edge of sane pressures.

I recently loaded 100 155 Scenars with 46.5grs of Varget, Win 2x, 210Ms and was able to seat them at 2.873" which was ~.015" off the lands in my 26" tube with 3k rounds down the pipe.

I didn't get to clock them, but I headed out to the 1k range with a dope sheet for 2850 fps and I was pretty close out to 450 yds, which is where I shot paper. 2950 fps out of a 22" tube is going to require a bit more Varget.

All you short barrel guys crack me the fuck up! 8~{}

Re: Seating depth for 155 Lapua

Hey nothing wrong with running a short tube, mines 19 inches, and im running right around 2850ish out of it with RE15, was running around 43.5 grs of H4895 and rocking about the same speed. Varget wasnt the god send i was hoping for, RE15 and H4895 were.

Re: Seating depth for 155 Lapua

47.8grs of Varget should get you close to that "dreamy" 2900fps, but work your way up with Lapua or Win brass only.

I'm running mine about 2.865" coal out a factory Rem 25"

Chris, I'll bet mine's bigger around than your's.

I think I'll hold of on pushing it. Its just not worth it to me to have an unsafe rifle. Might try another caliber in the future.

Thanks everyone for your input.
