A commercial building which housed shops, an eatery, and a mental health clinic in the Kita commercial district of downtown Osaka became a scene of carnage as an arsonist, now identified as 61 year old loner Morio Tanimoto, poured gasoline from a container in a paper bag all over the floor of the clinic and set it alight. As the flames spread rapidly, Tanimoto attempted to seal the doors of the only fire escape inside the clinic area with duct tape to prevent people from escaping and was overcome by the flames and smoke from his own handiwork. The fire was started right in front of the clinic's main entrance which opens into a stairwell, trapping people from the clinic as well as businesses in higher floors in place with no escape as smoke and fumes funneled through the building's interior. EMTs found Tanimoto in serious condition after the blaze was extinguished. 24 people were killed. This attack marks the second time in two years where arson is used for mass murder in Japan. Two years ago, a deranged incel, or "involuntary celibate, AKA a loser who cannot score poon" with delusions that a popular anime studio had stolen an imaginary anime work that he had somehow convinced himself that he made, set fire to the front and rear exits of the Kyoto studio, killing 36 people. Japanese police searching Tanimoto's residence found notes he had written indicating that he intended and prepared to commit the act, along with diagrams of building stairwells and exits which lead police to believe that Tanimoto had intended to duplicate the same methods used in the Kyoto fire.

    If only they banned matches.

High capacity assault matches are really concerning. They can hold more than 1000 lights in their magazine clips and are also capable of fully automatic fire when the trigger is held down. Weapons of mass (culinary) destruction like these have no place in our streets and in the hands of civilians. If anybody wants to own assault matches, they should go to culinary school and become a chef...
