How about a discussion on what could have been fairly close to master stroke regardin the ultimate WW2 service rifle - while JCG is developing his Garand, Carbine William and co. use some voodoo black magic to get the Ordnance headshed to have the M1 Carbine adopted in .22 Spitfire(or something very similar while @ same time trashin the M1 Garand proj), w/ say a nicely optimized(AFA acc./MV/ballistics/reliability) ~50 gr +/- FMJBT load + potential mods req'd to make it run flawless, imp'd sights, longer barrel to get max MV's, 30..or even 40 rd mags, etc.
What yall think? Pretty much WW2's hypothetical version/oncept of M16, albeit w/ closer lil to .221 FB ballistics than 5.56, tho as said, optimizin it into a full-on service rifle with close to similar/ or near same sights as a Garand + say, maybe a 20-22" barrel to get as optimal velocity as you could get out of the little round, plus slightly beefed up receiver to accommodate the longer heavier barrel!
Bet our boys in the Pacific would've loved something like this and the firepower provided..
Jus random thoughts after slammin 8 Blue Moons... so if I'm way off base, dont hesitate to correct as ya see fit, flame away if ya been hain a rough day & aint got no pussy past 48 hrs or so..
I know I know, would could shoulda.. fantasy land fictionist revisional history,, but man I cant think of no more optimal all round service rifle tht we coulda provided to our troops @ that time; w/ which if not already available components, was/would still have been very possible and plausible to produce the necessary componets to acc'plsh such. Imagine where we'd be at today if instead of the Garand, we had an enlarged, more accurate(as far as better sights + longer sight radius + maybe even well thought out barrel contour to further acc'cy potential) M1 Carbnie chambered in .22 Spitfire Improved or closely similar SCHV .22 CF giving wayyyyyyyy lighter loadout & recoil...
Counter argument being that by learnin the lessons we did thard way.. we ventually got ol' Mr Stoners masterpiece!
Any nd all thoughts welcome!
Best reards to yall n yall's!
