Hey, I'm new to the rimfire section; however, I have recently been really wanting to build a .22 trainer. I want my trainer to match my centerfire/comp. rifle as best as possible, which is an AIAW. I have read several posts regarding the use of AICS air soft stocks (Wells G-96) and I like the idea. I have had a Ruger 10-22 carbine for 20+ years and I truely love that little rifle, so my question is could I adapt the Wells stock to fit my Ruger, or would I be better off picking up a bolt action for this build? I have seen the CZ 455 being suggested quite often, would this be my best choice?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Seeking .22 advice

You can try with the 10-22 but it's going to be a major pain in the ass to inlet for the action. You would be much better off starting with a bolt action.

Re: Seeking .22 advice

Some years ago I was toying with the same idea, i.e. 22 cal practice should be done with the same platform you compete with. After doing some research I came to the conclusion that marksmanship skills easily translate across all platforms. So I resurrected my old Mossberg 144LSA and regularly fire 5 rounds of 22 for each round of large bore. No matter what else I shoot, rifle, pistol, shotgun, or muzzle loader, the same basic skill set is used throughout. So... chose what you like and shoot.
