Gunsmithing Seekins lower & stuck bolt catch plunger - help!

Hello all,

I am building a lower and I somehow have the bolt catch plunger stuck in the receiver.

The bolt catch spring is behind the plunger, but it is stuck good.

I lubed it up, didn't help and I am now heating the receiver up in my over (225 degrees), but no luck so far.

Any other ideas?

I am using an RRA lower parts kit. Either the plunger is outta spec or the bolt catch hole is too narrow.

Sometimes there is a small burr on the plunger hole. Try holding a heavy magnet to it, may be enough to draw it out. If that doesn't work use a small rawhide mallet and give it a good rap on the opposite side of the receiver.

I talked to Glen today, and despite what I think is an out of spec plunger (RRA parts kit) Glen has graciously volunteered to get my stuck pin out. So off to UPS I go!

Thanks Glen, the lower is a work of art and I appreciate the customer service!

I've dealt with quite a few of those on hard used rifles, what can happen is the bolt catch is levered in or impacted with force that swages the hole smaller at the opening. Usually just a sharp pointy steel tool rubbed around the edge of the hole will open up the mouth enough for the plunger to slide out.
