Seekins muzzle brake for Havak

I just purchased a Havak pro hunter PH1 rifle in 6.5 PRC. I am going to mount a vortex razor 3-18x50 on it. I ordered it with their muzzle brake. I have never shot a muzzle brake before and am hearing conflicting opinions on them. What is everyone's take on them? Thanks

Wear Ear Pro.

I personally believe you have no reason to not run a good brake. The people next to you may disagree. If it is really aggressive double up your ear pro.

I haven't used one on 6.5, but the Seekins on my 223 is loud. Real loud. Super effective though

I'd say using a muzzle brake is more about weapons control versus hearing protection. From the For Sale section it seems people are changing them out as they have good/bad experiences with how they help with shooting.

Hearing protection is more suited for suppressors and hear protection devices. I love the electronic styled ones, while the inner-ear foamies and over ear protection are going to be the best for hearing loss prevention.

Considering my childhood and military experiences one should heed good advice to always wear hearing protection. While I can pass a hearing test the tinnitus ringing in my ears can be obstructive.

idk what you're hearing that's conflicting? they're loud. they significantly reduce recoil. unless you're talking radial brakes more commonly found on hunting rifles.

the seekins brake looks fine. probably not as effective as a Hellfire/etc but it'll tame he muzzle some

is this a hunting rifle? or comp/target rifle?

I have the Seekins brake/comp on a Havak. It's not as aggressive as some brakes, but it works well enough to spot my hits, it doesn't blow dust up into my face like a radial brake, and it's priced right. I say proceed with confidence.

I will be using it as a hunting rifle. Just never used a brake before so didn't know what to expect. I don't usually wear hearing protection when hiking and hunting. At the range I always wear it.

I use them on all my rifles. When I'm hunting I don't even notice a difference. Additionally, being behind the rifle is different than being next to a braked rifle.

The Seekins brake, being less aggressive, is a little tamer than others in regards to noise produced.

Not noticing a brake doesnt mean it isnt damaging your hearing. If that's something you worry about.
