Hey all - Was out to zero my new PH2 (7mm RM) @100 yds.. Bottomed out the scope adjustment and was still hitting way too high. It has a 20 MOA base from the factory. I need to replace it with a 0 MOA base. Does anyone know if these bases are compatible with the Remington 700 bases or are they proprietary? Nobody has any of the Seekins LA bases in stock.

alfack,

Is that a Burris Eliminator 6 4-20x52mm on top of that Seekins PH2?? If so it has only 40 MOA (20 up and 20 down). No wonder you ran out of adjustment.

Sorry, if it is a Burris Eliminator, that is one terrible long range scope, mounted on one beautiful long range rifle. A Zero MOA base is not going to fix a problem of a rifle scope that calculates long range shots for you, but saddles you with a scope that is unable to make those shots due to insufficient elevation adjustment.

I mean you need about 18.2 MOA just to reach 800 yds or so, depending on your altitude. Then you have no more gas in your tank, or adjustment on your scope, to go much further.

As far a bases I would go ask Seekins Precision directly.

Yes. I sold some other things to put together a nice hunting rifle that would be good out to 500 - 600 yards. I really have no interest in yardage beyond that.

I would have thought I could dial down 20 and be zeroed at 100, given the 20 MOA base that comes with it. It turns out the base is not the same as a Remington 700.

The scope is 1/8 MOA per click and there are 400 clicks or so for total elevation.

Glen Seekins says he's never had a customer that needed a 0 MOA base before and that there must be something else going on. I'm not fully convinced of that, but will try pulling the brake off to see if there may be some interference there. I did not see any signs of scraping on the brake, tho.

I can see where 500-600 yds tops would be attractive with that scope. But a canted 20 MOA base is a no go with only 20 MOA of up & down adjustment, as you use some MOA just sighting in (5-7 MOA on average of total adjustment) because you usually use some left or right windage which takes away some of your vertical adjustment range.

Think of it this way: without a canted base you have 20 moa up and 20 moa down. With a 20 MOA base (the 20 MOA base takes from the down adjustment and adds it to the up adjustment) you now have 40 MOA up and 0 MOA down adjustment. Hence your rifle is shooting too high and you can't lower it enough to sight it in.

Does Glen know the spec's on this scope and have you told him you only have a max 20 MOA to play with??

I don't think Glen does know the specs of that scope. Like you, I think he expects people to mount some long range tactical scope with a lot of elevation adjustment.

I emailed the custom shop and they said the bases are proprietary and they only do the 20 MOA bases for the Havak. I don't think they are interested in a tool change for a one-off weirdo like me. If only I had a mill, I could make one.

I have decided to not pull the brake and ordered a set of the XTR rings. I am fairly sure that will get me a zero @ 100 yds. They include inserts for +20 and -20 MOA.

It gets frustrating waiting on all the cool parts, only to find out they don't play well together. Just want to get it ready for hunting season :)

Scopes that are made to shoot long range but have little elevation adjustment went the way of the Dodo a few years ago. But Burris has always had some quirky ideas. And 1/8 MOA adjustments are something only an F Class shooter would love.

In any event maybe try this guy as an alternative. He makes custom scope bases for a living:

Murphy Precision
