We managed to just finish the match before the skies opened up although we got a good soaking while putting away the target frames. The shooters did okay as the firing points are covered at the range. It was only us pit workers that took a bath! We had 11 shooters for the match. All firing is done from the 200 yard line. The entry fee is $20 of which $10 goes to the prize pool. Juniors (under 18) get in at half price.
Stage 1 was a "Know Your Limits" match. The target sizes were 6", 5" and 4" diameter circles that were scored 3 points for the small target. 2 points for the medium target and 1 point for the large target. The shooter started with a magazine of 5 rounds and the time limit was 30 seconds. you could fire from any of the 3 barricade positions that were 18", 36' and 48" high. If you fired a miss you didn't get a score for the stage. Clarke Schuyler was the stage winner with 5 points followed by Sam Miller with 4 points and Scott Victor with 2 points. None of the other 8 shooters got a score.
Stage 2 was a rapid fire match that was fired in 2 separate strings of 10 rounds each. The shooters were required to have a magazine change and to fire at least 2 rounds from each of the barricade positions. Failure to do so would result in no score for the stage. the time limit was 50 seconds and the target frame had 5 aiming blacks of 6"x9" oval size. Each aiming black had an X ring for tie breakers and were scored as hit or miss. The shooter was required to hit each target twice. Vic Betzold led the way with 18 hits and 7 X's.
Stage 3 was the "Heartbreaker" match and the targets were balloons of about 7" in diameter. Each frame had 10 balloons and the time limit was 2 minutes. The shooters started out with a loaded rifle and could shoot from any of the 3 positions on the barricade. The shooters other nine rounds were about 15' behind the line and they were allowed to load 1 round at a time. Sam Miller had the top score of 8 balloons followed by Dan Green with 7.
Stage 4 was the moving target. Each target had 3 nine inch diameter balloons mounted and the shooter had to hit the middle balloon for a score of 5 points. If he hit either of the outer balloons he received a score of -2. A miss was scored as 0. I would raise the target and walk along the pits with it at a normal walking pace. The target was exposed for 5 seconds. Each shooter had 5 tries at the mover. Josh Driessen had the top score of 10 points followed by Sam Miller with 8. This was the toughest stage for scoring points and it determined the match winner.
The total rounds for the match, including sighters was 43.
The scores were:
Josh Driessen, 29 points and 5X's good for $53
Sam Miller, 26 points and 3X's good for $31
Mike Peters, 25 points and 4X's good for $21
Vic Betzold, 18 with 7X's
Clarke Schuyler, 18 with 4X's
Steve Prosser, 15 with 5X's
Craig Peters, 13 with 0X's
Steve Hammer, 12 with 0X's
Scott Victor, 7 with 2X's
Dan Green, 7 with 0X's
Jim Prosser, 2 with 0X's
Thank you to all the guys who came out to shoot and to help run the match. Given the limited distance I hope everyone found the match to be a challenge.
The next match will be Saturday November 12th. I will post the particulars as we get closer to the match date.
