seller username: missed
recently bought a rifle from "missed" and ended up being very disappointed in the seller being upfront on a few issues.
it was a lefty savage action, 22-250 from "missed" built with quality components, manners mini chassis, mcgowan barrel, bottom metal, etc. i assumed if someone had a gun with these components it would not have had any issues.
that being said, the seller did ship quick and was easy to deal with, but.........
i took possession from my FFFL and literally within 5 minutes had to leave town for 2 weeks but from my limited viewing all looked acceptable.
after i got back here is what i discovered,
A) the savage action was the newer style with the bottom bolt release,(not disclosed) that means with it being in an aftermarket stock with a bottom metal you cannot access the bolt release without removing the barreled action from the stock. so if you want to remove the bolt, you have to break out the tools every time to remove the bolt.......the seller did not mention this and the pictures were all from the left side. perhaps i should have asked but i think this this is a vital piece of info.
B) upon pulling the barreled action to remove the bolt i discovered a mess in the barrel channel. the manners has an Anshutz rail and the allen screws(not original) that attach it were way too long and protruded into the barrel channel. so much so that the one closest to the breech actually pushed on the barrel. meaning that the barrel rested on the screw. and due to that screw the action was raised up and created larger void in the barrel channel. because of that some shadetree gunsmith piled in fiberglass resin in the channel and draped the cloth over the protruding screws and made mess. granted this is hidden but does not alter the fact that the barrel riding on a screw.
C) lastly, the foremost screw attaching the scope rail was stripped and had been JB welded in.
ok, i accept all of this as i didnt perform my due diligence. i should have asked more questions. but shit, who would have thought someone would have built a gun of decent components and effed it all up. this wasnt some POS pawn shop gun....full disclosure on the sellers part would have altered my purchase.
i have since remedied the gun and fixed it as it should have been in the first place.
i milled the side of the action to accept a top bolt release, bought and installed the top bolt release/sear, new sear pin and new sear spring. cleaned out the crap fiberglass/resin from the barrel channel and filled it properly to accept the proper barrel contour. i have yet to drill and tap the stripped rail screw as its in the area of the barrel threads but i will fix it once i pull the barrel.
again, im not very impressed with the seller as there was a lot of shit wrong with this gun. but i accept the fact that i should have inquired more before the purchase.
i bought it, i own it, i fixed it.
this is just and FYI, beware of "missed"
