It's that time again for my long-range (midrange) rimfire shoots. Not sure how much interest there is but we'll see how it goes. Getting to be so many it's hard to choose which ones to go to. Distances will be from 25 yards to 197 yards on swinging steel plate racks. Lots of shapes and sizes with maybe a couple novelty targets mixed in.
100 rounds should cover it, the match is usually 85-90 rounds plus a few extra for checking zero and 5 allowed sighters that a shooter can use at their descretion on any rack they desire during the match. I have a covered firing line with two benches and can shoot two shooters at a time.
To keep it somewhat even and not have a runaway equipment race I limit ammo costs to a max of $8.00/50 based on Champion Shooters Supply website. No tuners or heavy benchrest style front rests. Sandbags or bipods for the front and bags or even a monopod can be used on the rear. There is a separate set of 4moa targets at each distance for peep sight shooters so they can compete directly with the scoped guns. That sounds big but until you look thru a peep sight at them and see a pin prick at each distance to shoot at you don't realize the challenge.
The September match will be this coming weekend (second weekend) Friday (6th), Saturday (7th) and Sunday (9th). It takes about 1 hour to shoot the match. Please don't come before 8AM, this gives me time to get last minute things ready and not have a rush to see who can be first before before the Sun comes up.
A $10.00 donation is required for each entry, you may re-enter and shoot again for an additional donation. First place winner gets $25.00 and there will be at least one $25.00 drawing and could be more based on how many entries there are.
My email is [email protected] The shoots will be held at my personal range near St. Clairsville Ohio. Address for GPS is 43985 S. 70 Rd. Belmont Ohio. Eye and ear protection is required as well as a chamber flag or open bolt. No handling of the firearms will be allowed until it's your turn to shoot. Safety is number 1 priority.
If you've never tried longrange rimfire shooting I think it's every bit as challenging as our 1000 yard matches with the centerfires. Pretty satisfying to see that small target way out there swing and hear the distant "ding" after a hit.
