Ran into former special forces guy (supposedly a sniper) today at lunch and he told me I needed to check out Shephard scopes. He told me how great they are. Anyone have experience with them?

Re: Shephard Scopes?

I did my deer hunting with one for a few years. It works well for what it is intended for. Shot a doe in the head at 670 yards, although probably more luck than anything. I don't use it anymore because the eye box is not very good. Move much one way or the other and your view grays out. Although I have found other scopes in this price that I have used had similar problems. (don't jump down my throat, I haven't used that many scopes in this price range)

Re: Shephard Scopes?

Ok well my opinion is there are better scopes in that price range. But im not one to tell someone they have to have this scope and all others are shit. It really depends on what a guy wants out of a scope. The reticle is noisy. They are designed for the load you shoot but I think there is a lot of variable there when they classify them. But get whatever floats your boat.

Re: Shephard Scopes?

I have had one on a savage 110 300 Win Mag since 1998. I carefully developed a load to match the reticle as close as I could and have managed to shoot 10" groups at 1000 yards with Sierra 220gn match kings. I have never had a problem and at the time it fit what I wanted to do. It still resides on the rifle and just before my deployment I shot a few 1 hole 3 shot groups at 300 yards..the rifle and scope have always done well. Having said all that..I have an SN3 TPAL 5-25 on order.
