I am looking to rebarrel my savage 300WM in a heavy contour barrel. looking for thoughts/opinions on the the two, either one would be their higher grade the match select for Shilen, or super match for the PacNor. PacNor is cheaper by about 60.00 but do I sacrifice quality? Thanks!!

Re: Shilen Vs. PacNor Barrels

I'm debating those two myself. Making my savage a switch bbl. I forgot which model number I have but it's a .308. I'm wondering if a 6.5x284 will work in my action. I hear savages short action are a little longer than others. I'm a hoping.

284 was originally designed for short actions. My Savage F-Class 6.5x284 is a short action. (Go with a 260, twice the barrel life.) Good Luck.

Re: Shilen Vs. PacNor Barrels

I have had several Pac Nor super matches and currently have one on my 308. They are great barrels and shoot with the best of them. (I have or have tried most of them)I had Pac Nors on my 6.5x284s and on a 260. I used the 3 grove for the 6.5s and they were all good shooters.

Their customer service is top notch. I had a 260 that had a flaw in the steel and a piece of it flaked out in the grove area of the barrel. Pac Nor replaced the barrel for no charge even though I had close to 2000rds though it. You can't beat customer service like that.

They do not take a back seat to anyone. I prefer cut rifled barrels so I am using Kreigers now but still have and will always keep a Pac Nor because of the service they gave me and the quality of the barrel.

Hoping the 6.5x284 short bbl would match orslightly outdo the .260 long barrel performance. It would be my hunting rig
