Is this right, or am I missing something?

"Shipping Instructions

Despite what many shipping places will tell you, it is legal for you to ship your gun by UPS to a gunsmith for alterations or repair. However, the rifle must be shipped from a UPS office. You may also ship long guns through the Post Office. The finished gun can then be shipped directly back to you."

I assume he has FFL but is "shipped directly back to you" correct?

Thanks.

Re: shipping instructions found on Smiths site?

Yep. It's correct because the gun has already been registered to you. My local post master won't allow an individual to ship a gun (even though she has been contacted by the BATFE) so we have to pay a local FFL to drop it off for us. When it returns, it comes directly to me.

I ran into the same problem here. I made them get out their Postal Regulations book and show me where it says I cannot ship a long gun to an FFL. A Postal clerk and supervisor spent 30 minutes reading the book....bottom line, I won. The rifle shipped.

Re: shipping instructions found on Smiths site?

You send a rifle to me for work, I send it back to you. It is already your gun. That is the law!!! NO shenanigans needed. Some UPS stores get weird and insist it goes out from a service center. Walk out and go to Fed Ex. If they say the same go to DHL.

Re: shipping instructions found on Smiths site?

I had to go to a Fedex office to ship a revolver back to Smith and Wesson. They sent me a shipping label I believe, I can't recall. I go to the office and tell them what it is and they take it and send it out. They replaced the damaged titanium cylinder in a new 340PD and I had it back by the end of that week. No joke. And yeah, it came to the door and I had to sign for it of course.

Sent a Glock in recently to have the frame replaced. Ambi mag releases in G20's just don't work! So I got a regular short frame. They took a few weeks and I had to call them to make sure they did what I wanted. I also had to call them up and request a shipping label --Glock will be more than happy to let you pay for it. I go to UPS this time I think, tell them what it is, and send it out. It was delivered to my home.

For warranty work, make sure to get a mailing label, don't you pay for that. Fast air service for firearms isn't cheap. But for gunsmiths, I suppose you have to pay it.

No dealer involved if you are sending it in to the manufacturer for work, and pretty sure this applies to gunsmiths too --but they need to have their FFL's of course, and I'd double check with the gunsmith you choose.

Re: shipping instructions found on Smiths site?

The most hassle anyone can give you is to want to see a copy of the receiving partys FFL on a long gun but most wont say anything if you are shipping to a business name. I did have a douchebag at UPS try to tell me I had to supply a copy of my smiths FFL when it was addressed to XXX Custom Rifles LLC etc. but then backed down when I argued a bit and it shipped no problem. Handguns have to overnite and if i remember correctly but haven't had to ship one anywhere in a long time

What some people do not recognize is that Brown has "stores", the ones you find in a strip center, and they have a shipping terminal. The shipping terminal will ship firearms no problem.
