Anyone have any suggestions for shipping a large Pelican case with the rifle and accessories inside?

It's an IM3300 and the foam is all cut for the rifle itself and all of its accessories - the case is part of the package (I'm the seller).

My FFL offered to ship it, but said they don't have any cardboard boxes big enough for it, so I've been looking around for options.

The closest thing I can find is a FedEx "Bike" size shipping box - length wise it'd be perfect, but there'd be a substantial amount of "wiggle" room on the sides. So, I was thinking I'd just go with that and stuff the sides with wrap and what not to prevent serious movement.

Anyone else ever ship a large ass Pelican case w/ rifle? If so, what did you end up doing? Pre-made cardboard box? Make your own? Or something else?

I realize the Pelican case itself is designed for transport/travel, but I'd like to protect even the case itself if at all possible.

Just make a shell to fit the case out of cardboard. If you don't have one big enough to cut down just use big pieces, fit it around the case and glue them together with a hot glue gun as you go. I always do at least two layers of cardboard over a heavy case so sharper corners on the case don't poke through. Then wrap everything around it a couple times with tape just to further hold everything together. Stick a $20 inside for whoever has to cut the bitch open to buy themselves a couple beers.

also your hopefully friendly FFL is recycling or burning boxes like this daily and can help

All of the FFLs I've ever been to are a hard pass on giving up any of their rifle boxes! Wish they'd be less stingy. Ended up getting my C&R and ordering a few guns to the house just for the boxes. (That's what I tell myself, anyway)

Just ship it. I tossed the shipping label on the box and put to locks on it. Any real FFL should have bolt cutters :)

Either just lock it up and ship it, or as others have said, just take pieces of cardboard loose and tape over it.

Basically, just make a "skin" of cardboard. The cases is doing the protecting.....the cardboard is just to avoid anyone targeting the case for theft.

I shipped a .50 cal M82 before the required FFL via UPS with the label on the case and a clear label protector on it 2 padlocks on each side I sent the key to the buyer and kept 1 just in case. Arrived at his FFL without fanfare. This was back when you had to print a copy and UPS intake signed one and they were kept in a cage at the hub for theft prevention. Times have changed.
