I need to send my Savage FVSR from here in Ohio back to savage for a repair. Is there anything I need to do specifically when shipping a firearm? I'm looking around Google but just wondered if there's anything special I need to do?
You can look on GunBrokers website for tips for Sellers and shipping. I used their info to get comfortable shipping the first time I shipped a firearm.
Because it is a rifle, you can ship USPS if you want and package it well. As an individual, You are allowed to ship to an FFL, which would include Savage.

have shipped many a rifle. nothing special is needed. though i would put insurance on it, and package against damage. put a tracker on it too, and duplicate receipts of how much everything is and send a copy with the rifle. if it's a repair due to manufacturing issues perhaps savage will reimburse the shipping.
You will save about half of what you'd spend shipping it on your own.
You also need to make sure the FFL you are shipping to is willing to accept from an individual. Some do not. Also, some states do not allow individual to FFL transfers.

Depends on the state as to whether you can ship to an FFL as an individual. Also, some FFL as a preference do not allow individuals to transfer to them.
Yea......he'll probably never, ever, ever ship a rifle to anyone else for any other reason than for repair. Why educate him further than this exact instance?
