Went on a quick grocery run broad daylight, busy large store near full parking lott.

On the way back to my truck some guy tries to engage me with hey you twice I kept walking but moved sack to off hand. Guy screamed hey you I kept my slow steady pace.

Another guy gets out of a car beside the first man and hollers he's talking to you.

I turned to them and pulled up my shirt and tucked it behind my holster.

They hauled ass.

The entire time I was wondering how I could not drop my groceries. Lol

When it comes to violence, i have endured more than my share of horror. my girlfriend (later wife) was brutally raped. I’ve had 3 children i loved, brutally murdered. So you are not conversing with someone who is daydreaming of “what ifs”. I’ve seen evil up close and personal. So please save your grandstanding for some other time, place, or person.

My point (cause evidently i have to specify so someone doesnt come along and put words in my mouth) is that i would not have warned them i was carrying. i would have let it develop to the point where their intentions were unmistakable, and if those intentions were bad, THATS when i would have taken action, IF it was warranted. Dude... reread what you wrote in your first post, then stop and think about how it can be interpreted. If you don’t clarify or provide any context, you leave everything open for interpretation.

Also why let the situation, as described by the OP, develop? He wasn’t approached, someone was yelling “hey you” at him from a distance.

I have my own experiences (do we really need to drop resumes on here?) that have formed the opinions that I have, especially of those who brandish weapons, open carry, and/or don’t know how to disregard someone “yelling” at them.

Too many people tend to think of themselves as badasses when they carry yet have the communication/social skills of a child. You of all people should know that, just as you should know that brandishing can take a verbal altercation from 5 to 100 in a millisecond.

No need to be civil, speak freely. I thought we were all adults, so why would random words on the internet hurt or upset us?

While I support anyone else's right to exercise their constitutional right to open carry, I choose not to for a number of reasons:

1. Open carry allows potential threats to know what I have, where it is located, and if someone is using a REALLY cheap holster and belt setup, might give the impression that the person carrying doesn't have all that much experience with the weapon system.
2. Open carry can make someone a target simply for the weapon. Someone may think that a sneak attack from behind would knock down and/or out the person carrying the weapon which could be subsequently stolen.
3. Open carry could give the wrong impression to police, rent-a-cops, or do-gooders who want to confront the person carrying and either tell them off, try to affect an arrest, want to see your (not required) CCW, seize their weapon, or some other manner of interfering with the person carrying the weapon. I just don't want the aggravation of dealing with those folks.
4. I have no need to make some kind of political statement by openly displaying a firearm. I prefer to keep my choices to myself. While open carry may educate a few people about what the laws allow, it is far more likely that open carrying will frighten, or otherwise "put off" other people, so the message will not get through.

The police department, officers and dispatchers are the ones that need to be educated FIRST, so when people call to complain about someone open carrying, the department will tell them no law is being broken . However, first, it would be smart to find out if the department already knows and supports these laws.Handing out flyers explaining the laws that allow open carry would probably get the message through to more people without all the drama.
5. I want to keep any firearm I may be carrying concealed until just before I intend to use it. I think there is an immense tactical advantage to not showing my capabilities BEFORE they are needed. That also reduces the likelihood of me having to fight to retain any weapon I may be carrying from an attempted weapon snatch.

Please keep in mind these are MY choices, and I support other people's right to make any choices they have, as long as those choices are within the law. Just because I may disagree with someone, does not mean I will try to force my choices or opinions onto them.

While I agree with the "always carry" mantra, I also carry with it the "de-escalate, de-escalate, de-escalate" mantra. Along with, "always be aware of your surrounds", and "you'll probably need a trauma kit long before you need a spare mag, plan accordingly."

All that said, to the OP, a few thoughts, as a fellow Texan:

1. Had they decided to call the police, you might have walked, but you'd be inconvenienced at best.
2. Had your hand touched iron, they'd have had legal justification to use deadly force.
3. You would have a tough time with the "reasonable man" definitions in this encounter.
4. Writing shit like this on the internet can/will bite you in the ass, metaphorically speaking, if you ever do have to use deadly force. I'd cut this story-telling thing out posthaste.

I wasn't there, can't say with certainty you acted badly or not; but your telling of the story leaves me wondering if I were the guy trying to inform you that you had dropped your phone, how I would have reacted.
