I'd make sure to call and check if they are closed. Was over there last week and they decided to mow the lawns that morning. 40 minutes from GB - what a waste of gas and time. Was there one other time and they had LEO training going on it was closed to the public. Have been shooting there for 6 months or so and only had those two issues. Pretty clean range, I usually go on a weekday and it's normally wide open. Rules and regs on their site state that it's paper or cardboard only for targets. I've seen some flimsy metal targets left up at the 500 yard berm but have never seen anyone lugging AR500 steel down range.

You should have swung over to the greenville range. The have a nice 300 yard range. Not as long as Shiocton but it would have made use of the trip. The Greenville range is quite structured with the range officer but it is a very nice facility, cheap, and very safe. After the day is over you can share a beer with the old guys in the clubhouse and B.S. Fun group.

Hey northern,
Thanks for the heads up, I was aware of the range but it never even crossed my mind, I will have to check that one out. Have you ever been to RW Ranch outside of Oshkosh? RW Ranch, LLC - Welcome to RW Ranch I couldn't find the info on their site but I thought I read that they had facilities out to 1400 yards...? I've finally got my .308 dialed in and a new scope on it and Shiocton is great, but would love to stretch it's legs a little bit and 500 yards just isn't doing it.

Zeke, that RW ranch sounds awesome. I've heard rumor there was a long range around but everyone I talked to didn't know the name of it.. Now I do. The Shiocton range will be closed next weekend the 21st for the cabbage chuck. I will be there for that to help a friend operate his trebuchet, come on out it's a good time. Air cannons to trebuchets to launch heads of cabbage. I think we need to make a call to this RW ranch to see if we can get some long range time in. I'll bring the .260 out, we can have some fun. Let me know if you want to shoot sometime.

I know this is last minute but we're planning a trip to Shiocton this morning 9/22 with some friends and their kids to do some plinking. You're post mentions the range is closed this weekend, but only for Saturday...I hope. I'm currently working nights/weekends at my regular job (thru October) which leaves Mon/Tue/Wed AM's to go out shooting. If your schedule lines up, let me know and we can meet up. After Nov. 4th I'm hoping to get back onto a more normal shift and would have different hours available.
