If they feed fine there's no problem shooting them, however this is the issue that can arise; rimfire cases are headspacing on the case rim, but the chamber dimensions are cut for a .22lr. When you shoot a .22 short or long in a .22lr chamber, the fouling starts to collect in the chamber as opposed to the throat/rifling so after a session of running .22 shorts or longs if you were to switch to .22lr you could run into chambering issues due to the location of the fouling. All you need to do when switching ammo types is to run a patch or snake through the bore to clean the chamber of any crud that may be accumulating there.
