Shooting with lost fingers

Hello,
FNG here,

After shooting and also using nearly every saw imaginable for over 50 years, I had a board blow up in my shooting hand off a commercial table saw. I lost my shooting finger and mangled two others.

Is there any type of device or ideas for shooting with a disabled hand or do I need to shoot southpaw?

When thinking about the thousands of hours shooting off the bench or in the field, my heart breaks to think that is all lost and I have to start over.

Please help

It was my own fault. I was tired, thirsty, hot and in a hurry. The pine board I was ripping on the saw kicked back. For a lack of a better term when I eased off the board, it shot back towards me with such force that it drove the board into my hand and exploded (Surgeons term not mine) into splinters and drove those large and small splinters into and through my hand

I have had 7 spine and two ankle surgeries in the last 3.5 years, along with taking care of a very ill spouse.
Not at all looking for empathy or sympathy. You asked a great question, and I answered. I finally have some breathing room and want to get back into my second great love

A skeet shooter at our club lost his trigger finger and used his middle finger as I recall. Wishing you the best for finding a solution, as I would also be heartbroken if I could no longer shoot.

Do you still have your middle finger? If so, use that on the trigger.

Chris Wray....who teaches with Frank Galli in CO and has a lot of vid content on this board....uses his middle finger for the trigger even though he hasn't had any hand injuries. He just likes it.

As for your other surgeries, I hope you are doing well now. I've not had ankle surgery but can commiserate about back injuries and operations. Best of luck to you.

Unfortunately middle and ring finger are completely numb from second knuckle up. Your suggestion though is making me think about using my little finger. Fortunately I do have all the shooting knowledge in my head still ie. Everything from Coriolis effect, to mirage, to parabella, to reloading specs etc etc. You know the drill.

While I don't have the fingers and wasn't using my brain at the time of accident I didn't lose all the shooting knowledge in my brain. LOL

Oh yeah, I’ve seen that before but forgot about. Great vid for the OP.

@Bigwavedave2u - look at this ^^ vid. He can do this ^^ then perhaps your can shoot with your numb fingers.
