I have a spare set of winchester model 70 short action 20 moa two piece mark 4 bases that I would like to mount on a model 70 long action 300 win mag. All screw holes line up... I have not run the calc, but I imagine it would make the base less that 20 moa but still more that 0 moa. I plan to use this rifle hunting to a maximum of 400 yards... 500 if needed. Does anyone know a reason not to use these bases for mounting my scope on the long action rifle?

I’ve never used two piece bases with cant, but I’d assume the individual bases are sloped and not just different heights, in which case they will be parallel but not in line.

I'm not sure it will work. On a long action, the front base puts the scope further. It would also cause the scope to sit higher but not flat. Because they would run parallel like someone else mentioned, it is possible the scope will mate fine on the front part but not on the rear part.

Providing an update. I called Leupold and asked them about the 2 piece bases.. they informed me that they only make 0 moa 2 piece bases so whether short or long action should be the same... strange to market SA and LA individually, but I will take the word of the technical rep. Thank you for your responses. I initially researched this on the internet to see if anyone had any feedback about an issue like this with the 2 piece base and did not find anything. I will post an update once my scope comes in and mounted with level check and test firing.
