I picked this tomato stake up at the local fun store the other day. 1945 Lithgow JJCO import. I've dug around a little and found some information on the JJ Co. imports; it appears this is a rebuild from new-old-stock parts. The metal is all matching, and the stock pieces are marked SLAZ 42 and SLAZ 43 (Aussie made, but before the rifle was originally put together). Mix of MA and OA parts-- two different locations for the Lithgow arsenal if my reading comprehension and memory serve; seems to be during and after the war respectively. So I suppose it's too good to be true for a purist collector. For what I paid ($390), I don't think I did too bad, if nothing else I have the best condition shooter a guy could possibly hope for. Everything is newish, surreal. I've never seen a no.1 in this shape, it reminds me of the mummy wrapped no.4 mk2s that were imported several years ago.

It took me years to get over my inhibition about owning one. Mine was a wartime No. 4 Mk 1* made by Savage that saw service. At least it looked like it did.

The really fun part was shooting real surplus ammo on a range that could show what it would do.
