Good shoot. Mr. Bracey did his job as a father protecting his wife and child. And even before he managed to get his hands on his gun, he showed no fear or hesitation in the face of the threat and launched on the intruder with any improvised weapon that he could find.
I would not be too harsh on him for not being a perfect shot. This was obviously an adrenaline charged situation where it was pure fight or flight. The fact that Mr. Bracey was able to connect some of his shots with the deranged assailant, without collateral damage to innocent bystanders, all while he was totally unprepared, is worthy of praise enough. Who could guess what could have happened to the child if she had been home alone?
I would definitely recommend the father to get a lot more range time and maybe take a few reality based firearm courses. Those will not automatically turn someone into a trained gunfighter, but they will do a lot of good in preparing you, mentally and physically, for such scenarios.
