Hey
I am looking at buying a Long Range rifle (from APRS) in the next 2 years; I have the money to buy the NGIHT FORCE F1 SCOPE at about $2390 now. Should I buy the scope now, or should I wait until I have the rifle, I’m not sure if the price will go UP or DOWN or if new Models will come out.
Any one got any suggestions…
*thanks* (-_*)

I'd wait, keep saving and see what is about when you finally buy the rifle.

A LOT can happen in two years....look at the increase in magnification levels that S&B and others have come up with in the last two - three years or so.....my 3-12x50 PMII looks positively outdated now!!

As for price...if anyone can reliably predict the currency market, inflation, raw materials etc. that far in advance, give me their number, I may need their investment advice!!

I agree, you never know how things may work out. Get the rifle and see what best fits your needs at that time. The way new products pop up your dream scope could be here any day

I might disagree. Price will likely go up. On that note, if you have cash you can beat $2390. Also, you might end up waiting on whatever scope you go with. My last two scopes have been between a 4 and 10 month wait before I got them. So if you buy the rifle then order a scope you might have to wait to shoot it.

But, you will likely wait on the rifle once you order it as well, so what I just said might be a wash.

Re: Should I buy my Night Force F1 scope now oR wait

I waited to buy a scope and during the wait time NF came out with the 20 MOA turrets and the MOAR reticle. I happened to pick a 5.5-22x up used for less than buying the new 5.5-22x with the standard 10 MOA turret. Glad I waited.

Also, if you're dead set on a specific scope/reticle combination and they happen to release a new product while you're waiting for your rifle, and maybe you don't need all those features, the price of the older model that you want may very well go down. Especially if you don't mind buying used. And with scopes, buying used, in my opinion, is the best way to go. Especially if you pick one up from a Hide member.

You never know but at that price there is a lot of competition.
Competition makes prices get lower.
On the other hand ~ high demand can keep it up there.
When and if NF comes out with some more FFP models then that could take some pressure off the demand for the F1 and prices could drop.
You never know but I doubt NF can squeeze that much more $$ out of a F1.
I could be wrong.

Re: Should I buy my Night Force F1 scope now wait

I agree with buying used. With the warranties and customer service offered by alot of the companies these days, it's really hard to justify spending the extra couple hundred or even thousands on a new scope.

Wait to buy. Things change too much over that much time. It's impossible to chase the latest greatest thing without driving yourself crazy though. Buying quality used products can help hedge against future price increases when you are ready. Especially a quality instrument like a NF scope.

I agree that prices will likely go up, but usually that is around 3-4% per year with the natural rate of inflation but most of the time big increases are due to new products with new or better technology. Most likely the same NF F1 scope will be less money if NF goes ahead and releases the products they have been developing for a while. If they don't, and the NF F1 is still their newest product it will probably be around 8% more expensive in two years. It would likely be the case that if the same amount of capital was invested in something else it would earn more than the 4% per year increase in price if not then it would be a good choice to buy now assuming NF does not release any new products between then.
