sig 556 dmr

Re: sig 556 dmr

I was considering buying the DMR model, but the 1:10 twist really threw me off. After a lot of searching, I couldn't find anything confirming the accuracy of that configuration. Also, found several complaints about sloppy fit between upper and lower. I'm now leaning toward the RRA Varmint.

Re: sig 556 dmr

I spoke with the SIG rep at the NRA show in Charlotte last month. He agreed with me that the 1/10 twist was a odd choice. IMHO companies making guns today for the .223/5.56 should stick with 1/7" twist. This will accurately spin everything from 52 grain to 80 grains...

Re: sig 556 dmr

Got home last night and finaly go to handle the rifle, and so far I'm pretty impressed.

Initial observations:

Fit and Finish--above average for factory rifle
Heavy--which I like
Trigger--Felt like what I thought was 2-stage, but SIG calls it enhanced single stage?
PRS stock is sweet
Bipod--harris canted, but not notched legs
Forearm rail is heavy, solid

Going to the range today if weather permits...Well, even if it doesn't.

Re: sig 556 dmr

I have been trying for over 6 months to get my early SIG 556(Many swiss parts) to shoot close to 1" groups some have reported with their 556's. Tried 52 grain smk's, 60 grain Hornady spire points, 52 and 53 grain Hornady match and 69 grain smk's. These loads will shoot close to 1 MOA in my 6600 Hbar and under 1" in my PSS. But the best I can do in the 556 is about 2". I'm just about given up on getting this rifle to shoot. Called SIG they say it's within specs. My last SIG rifle. This after having great success with my SIG AMT & PE 57.

Re: sig 556 dmr

I went to the range today and averaged about 1.5" groups at 100 yards. I think it can do much better, only time will tell. Next time I will be sure to take a rear bag (left it at the house by mistake).

I was using Hornady 55gr FMJBT. The range was pretty windy today. I'm looking forward to going out again, these rifles are such a joy to shoot.
