A friend is wanting to sell this and I, for some reason thought these models where more valuable. Am I mixing it up with something else? Can someone give insight? Marked

I am trying to remember what they sold for. I think the Sig 516 sold for about $1700 and the Sig 400 sold for about $1100 so I think the were priced about $1400 or so new. May someone here has a good number for you.

The US 55x series was dropped by sig USA and US no longer supported, end users can get Swiss parts but they are expensive and utilize a different barrel threading so once the US barrel is shot out, it's a club.

Not a bad rifle, I would go 800 for it to buy it to use as spare parts.

Gunner10 is correct. I had one of the early SIG 556's the internals and barrel were Swiss made. But with the early Fish gill hand guards and butt stock it was fugly.I replaced the hand guards with SIG 552's and a Magpul CTR butt stock. It came with no sight so I had to add those. By the time I traded it I hade over $2K into it. It was very reliable but I could never get it to shoot decent 100 yard groups. At best 2" to 2.5" 5 shot 100 yard groups. Very common complaints about grouping backing the day. Later SIG 556's had lots of other problems that were pretty serious. I was very happy when mine was gone.

Good post and fair. I'd offer 700 but wouldn't stray too much from that

Bought one years ago when they first hit stores. Never fired it & a week later traded for an HK SL6, now that was one I hated letting go of. Not up to date on the current market, not something you see everyday. If it's not shot out, & you don't plan on "burn-down" mag dumps. The time to buy is when it's in front of you.
