Sig Brass surprise

I just received, from my new best friend, 99 new Sig 300 win mag cases. I was shocked to see that that had already been annealed... so I went to their website and sure enough they are induction annealed. The whole case sounds like they are quality. I cant wait to start my reloading...

Yes. All brass is annealed or it would likely split on the first firing or even when a bullet is first seated. Many companies tumble and wash their brass after the final annealing and it removes the annealing marks.

Plus they are annealed many times during the entire case forming in addition to right at the end

While all brass is annealed, I can say that I have a couple hundred pieces of SIG 300WM brass that I've had incredible luck with. It's been quality and very consistent. Good luck with it!

That's asking a metallurgical question more than anything. Broadly speaking, the brass is of course softest in the neck/shoulder area, as it contacts and seals in the chamber first -- there's a hardness gradient along the length of the case going from softest at the neck to hardest at the base. Repeated firings of the same piece of brass can lead to work-hardening, particularly where the brass becomes harder in the areas where it's softest. Some reloaders may choose to anneal the necks/shoulder after repeated firings to ensure that the neck/shoulder area remains soft.

I agree with @B'N'F wholly and he's on the right track. Personally, I anneal my precision rifle cases after every firing but hunting/varmint/plinking brass I only anneal every 3 to 5 firings depending on the brass itself. Anything I shoot precision or anything I expect super low extreme spread or extreme low SD numbers on I anneal every time. I've seen an improvement doing it that way in most cases.
