I just picked up a sig sp2022 9mm two days ago. I've run 100 rounds through it. 50 were winchester white box and 50 were rem umc. Both types of ammo shot ve ry accurately however with both, the slide failed to lock back about 60% of the time. Any ideas?

Re: Sig sauer problem

I don't know the technical terms but on the slide release there is a lip that the magazine follower hits in turn lifting up the slide release locking it to the rear. I had a problem on a pistol where it was machined at too wide of an angle so it didn't hav enough force to lock the slide every time.

Re: Sig sauer problem

One of the faults I find with Sig's is the placement of the slide stop lever. With a proper hold on the handgun your thumb will hold the slide stop lever, at least partially, in the "release" position (well, mine does anyways).

Re: Sig sauer problem

Weaver stance, i've had multiple people shoot it with the same results. None of us were limpwristing. I have noticed there was already wear and a large burr on the part of the magazine that pushes the slide lock up. It is well greased, and even when I'm manually operating the slide with the mag in, it fails to lock back. I have a new mag arriving hopefully this week, however my dealer said they may have to trade me for a new pistol. I was actually able to group 1 square foot at 70 yards with this pistol free supported. Is it worth having the slide lock back properly on a new pistol to possibly sacrifice that kind of accuracy?

Re: Sig sauer problem

Regardless of accuracy, the weapon is a machine that you may have to employ to defend your life or the lives of others one day. IMHO it should function 100%.
Sig makes a quality pistol, I am sure that once you work out the issue, there will be no problems. If you are really pleased with the accuracy of the specific gun, call Sig CS and see what they recommend. It might have to go back for a tweak.

Re: Sig sauer problem

Very true, it should function flawlessly, and even if I get a new one and it doesn't group at 70 yards, that's what my LMT Defender 2000 is for

i'm taking it back to be looked at tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted on what the problem actually ends up being.

By the way, Happy New Year y'all!

Re: Sig sauer problem

Ok, got word from the gunsmith, the problem was the slide release lever. There was a small burr preventing it from being fully inserted into the gun. got that taken care of and the pistol functions flawlessly. Thanks for all the input guys!
