Sidearms & Scatterguns SIG TacOps 1911 Modifications & Smith Recommendations

I put a Sig TacOps 1911 TB on lay-away so it will be a few months before I get it out but looking for suggestions on some things before I pick it up.

First off, I'm going to shoot it and see if I have any issues, regardless if I do or don't have any issues I still prefer to make the following modifications. I have heard some of the Sig 1911's have had weak extractor issues so I plan to pick up a EGW extractor. I also plan on having a smith break it down and clean up any tooling/machine marks and reduce trigger pull to around 4 lbs. I also want to replace the long shoe trigger with a medium or short. That's all the mods I really feel are necessary for this gun.

The question I really need help with is who to send it to? From what I understand most people either love or hate the Sig 1911 models so I was curious if the smiths felt the same way. Please help me out and recommend a reputable and top notch smith. I know this gun will never be a Wilson Combat or NightHawk but I want this gun to have a smoother and somewhat custom feel to it.

send it back to the Sig custom shop it will also save your warranty.

Shoot 500 rounds through it stock and get back with us after that or if it starts malfunctioning.

I have one that out of the box is 4lbs. I love the gun and have 1500 rounds through it so far. I run it primarily suppressed with a tirant can, both wet and dry and it gets dirty!). I switched out the checkmate mags for Tripp Cobra mags and a couple free stainless mec gar mags (only because of my concern for long term reliability, they functioned fine when I tested them, just made of thinner steel). The gun eats 230 ball like a cookie monster and as long as it isn't stupid dirty it will run 185 semi wadcutter.

Accuracy wise, I pretty much only shoot gold medal match and the gun shoots tiny groups at 25 yards and I have hit steel to 200 yards with it (although my buddy did get a first round hit at 305 yards on a 10" square plate with his FNP tac 45, I couldn't hit it).

I have been a sig guy since my first Sig p228 (25k rounds went through it before the accuracy dropped off and I bought it well used!). Needless to say I have stripped 1911 down to the smallest pieces and have been very happy with what I have seen.

Cannot help you with a gunsmith. Can tell you that the Sig Tac Ops TB shoots great right out of the box. I have run mine with and without the Osprey. Don't know how much more that your would want to do the the Sig 1911. Don't let the price fool you. Sig make a great 1911 for the money. Like stated above, try the Sig custom shop and see what they offer.

Really surprised, but pleasantly surprised. I do need somebody to fit the new trigger though because I dont know crap about the 1911 or its variants. Thanks for the replies
