Rifle Scopes Sightron Scopes

I thought about purchasing a Sightron II 4 - 16 x 44scope to try on a new custom built 7-08 but not sure about this line of scopes. Can anyone give me some tips regarding them? I will probably buy a better scope down the road and put this one on a rimfire

There's tons of prior discussion of Sightron here if you do a search. I discovered Sightron maybe a year ago thanks to posts here and have found them to be excellent target scopes for the money - among the very best glass under $1k. I'm using only the SIII line, and don't have experience with the SII. My understanding is that the SIII and SII Big Sky (not regular SII) are made in Japan at LOW, and that the SII is made in the Philippines, apparently at a plant owned by LOW (?). All of them get good reviews, although the Big Sky series seems to get especially good reviews for its price point.

I haven't had to use Sightron service, but they do offer a lifetime warranty. I have contacted them with technical questions and received quick, useful answers, which is always a good sign.

I would go with big sky or SIII. Their lesser offerings are just average for that price point.

I agree as well...I'd go with the S III series. I've been running an S III 6-24X since June on three different rifles. ALL have rails and I know the adjustments from say the M1A to the Daniel Defense to get back to zero. If I go the proper amount of clicks...it's PERFECTLY zeroed each time. so I would say their REPEAT ABILITY is not in question.

I have a S III as well.I have good luck with that scope.It tracks fine.It has a nice feel when making adjustments.Glass seems very clear for the money.

Thanks guys. I found a used SII 4 - 16 for $300 and thought about trying it. But what is the saying about "Buy once, Cry once".

Honestly,

I would pass on the SII. I'm very happy with the SIII I have but I think there is better options below it. If you can swing the SIII, you will get 30mm tube, more elevation, better built/matching turrets, superior glass and reticle choices. You also get full access to the custom shop for any modifications you choose.

The build is very different.

SIII

If you are comfortable with the AO I would look into Burris. The offer a nicer reticle, good glass and matching turrets.

Priced in between, I would look into Bushnell's Elite Tactical line.

If you don't mind the turrets not matching the reticle look at the 2.5-16x42. I own one and its a nice scope. 30 mm tube with gobs of elevation. Only downside are the moa turrets for the mil reticle. Glass is good and mag range is great. For matching turrets take a look into the 3-12x which has a variety of options

Also in the mid price range is Leupold's VXR line. The glass is clear, capped turrets and illumination.

Lastly, I would look into Weaver's offerings, which I've come across lately. Glass and turrets are also good.


I really do like Sightron... I just think there's a lot better competition below their SIII line, which they've done very well with and put them on the map.

I have the SIII and have no complaints. Reasonable price, great glass, positive tracking and return to zero. The only complaint (and a minor one at that) is that a lot of these scopes come with a very "stiff" parallax knob.

If you are on a budget the big sky is better than Nikon Monarch in glass, but knobs not as good as Leupy vx3 with target knobs. The SIII has the same glass but the knobs are the best I have ever used even better than my bushy HDMR.

I really like my SIII, 8-32 tactical, wouldn't trade it for any other scope in it's price range or even more. I use mine for 600yd BR.
I'd get another in a heartbeat.

I've recently sent in my SIII 10-50x60 for warranty. It's been less than 20 days and they have already fixed the scope and shipped it back, no questions asked. Customer server is good and warranty even better.

Stick with the sightron SIII, much better value for the money than the other S's.
