So since im in AZ and summer is almost done and temps arent 100* at 7am, I am getting ready to starting my shooting season (and by this i mean im out every weekend, not just once a month). A buddy of mine who I go shooting with ordered his R700 and is awaiting delivery and once he gets it, we r going shooting. This gives me a chance to break out my recent .308 AR build and have some fun, only problem... I have no glass

I gave myself over summer to get some, and never did. I was pretty much convinced on going with the NF 8-32x56 BR when I started the .308 build, but now that ive had time to look over different scopes, the Sightron Siii 8-32x56 has me really looking at it over the NF. Can anyone point me into the right direction? I am looking to purchase within the next 2 weeks btw, so anyone that knows the best place to find either with the MOA reticle for the cheapest price, id appreciate it.

To keep things realistic, this will be shot from either a bench or prone position and the most I will be going out to for now is 500 yards. By april/may, another friend will have his private range and it will go out to 1500 yards (atleast he tells me this). I personally dont see me trying to go anywhere pass 1000 yards just cause I AM shooting a .308 and thats going to be "fun" to do every onec in a while, but I will prob stick to 600-800 yards constantly, or at the very least, get proficient enough with my reloads to get great groupings at 500 yards. I would also like to get into F class or some time of bench shooting with this rifle. I already have the ADM 20 moa base. I am not worried about resale as I plan on keeping whichever scope on this rifle. So basically is the NF glass worth the extra $300 over the sightron? I did a search and found some info on the sightron here, as well as the NF, but i was kind hoping for some unbiased help.

Thanks!

Re: sightron Siii 8-32x56 or nightforce BR 8-32x56

I have the SIII 8-32x56 moa/moa, and this was the same two scopes I was kicking around.

I shot a local fclass league with it as well as coyote hunted with it.

I've been behind 3 of the benchrests, one NXS on the line, you go with the NF for the proven durability, but that's in the NXS.

I can't give you a reason to go with the benchrest over the Sightron, really can't, they are right on par with each other.

I had dust in my SIII and had a match coming up in a week and a half, sightron paid for me to second day air the scope to them, called me the next day to let me know they would be second day airing it back the next day.

Customer service like that is fantastic.

They are very similar in glass, reliability, and price. The only significant difference is that the Sightron has sight focus and the NF benchrest has an adjustable objective. Side focus is easier to use in my opinion, but sometimes an AO is beneficial for fixed distance competition.

Re: sightron Siii 8-32x56 or nightforce BR 8-32x56

the difference in price is not enough to make the NF any better than the sightron SIII, just more expensive.
I have an SIII in 8-32 and it passed all the box test and numerous 8-9-1000 yds back and forth tracking regimen and never missed a beat. I cannot justify the nightforce over the SIII.
hope this helps.

I run the Sightron SIII 8-32 on my custom Super Sass build. VERY happy with the scope! For the money it's hard to beat. We compared it side by side to a Nightfore NXS and it's right up there with it at a much lower price....

Re: sightron Siii 8-32x56 or nightforce BR 8-32x56

I've just recently got the 8-32 SIII, the glass is equal to my nxs without a doubt. Not looked through the BR so couldn't comment in that but I prefer the side focus and turrets on the SIII plus it has better internal elevation than the BR. I've also got the 6-24 on a 338lm with its 100moa adjustment.

Get in touch with Scott at Liberty Optics he'll sort you out.

Re: sightron Siii 8-32x56 or nightforce BR 8-32x56

I bought one for f-class. I have the 8-32 with 1/8min click with 1/8 dot reticle.

I choose it over the NF Benchrest model. Especially, since the Sightron saves on weight.. helpful if you need to save weight on a competition rig.

But, I had to send it back to Sightron because after a dew dozen rounds of .308 WIn, a couple of large floaters showed up. Others have raved over Sightrons CS, but I really thought a 5 week turn around was excesive.

The glass is good, clear to max power and it does track well. Still have a couple of small floaters since returned which sucks.. good target scope, but this one will be likely be the only one I own.
