I have a remington 700 sps tactical in a .308 and the action isn't as smooth as I thought and like it to be (specifically pushing the bolt handle down and pulling it up). Is there anything that can be done to make the action alot smoother/easier? Thanks

Re: Smoother action

Notice where the metal contacts at the bolt handle when you operate the bolt....it's likely wearing some. Depending on what you have and your comfort level do one of the following to the mated surfaces found above:

1. Apply JB bore paste operate bolt/reapply until it suits you
2. Apply tooth paste operate bolt/reapply until it suits you
3. Lightly polish with a dremel and rouge.
4. Grease and cycle the crap out of it until it suits you

Either one will work. Before you do anything with abrasives try #4 first.

Clean good and finish with some good gun grease or slide glide on this area and the lugs. I find a difficult lift/close of the bolt is many times burrs or roughness at the bolt handle where it engages the action but may also include the lugs.

Re: Smoother action

Lots of shooting and dry firing has smoothed my SPS tac bolt very nicely. If it hasn't been used much it just takes a bit of time for any burrs to get knocked down and everything to find its happy place.

Also, every few times I have the rifle out I make sure to clean and regrease the lugs, cocking cam, and primary extraction point. This keeps it grit free and running slick.
