I need a pair of Snake boots. I spent the day out scouting my deer lease in Central Texas. I didn't see any rattle snakes but I am tired of picking cactus thorns out of my shins. Our lease is covered in cactus fields, some areas its super thick. I've tried canvas reinforced hunting pants and they still poke through. I enjoy hiking through the area so comfort and a good tread is important.

Anyone have any recommendations.

Re: Snake boots

Not so sure snake boots are the ticket for that as thorns tend to be alot thinner than fangs and may still poke through.

Re: Snake boots

Snake boots won't stop cactus. You might look into a set of those plastic snake gators. Other than that just try harder to avoid them. I carry tweezers when I'm at the lease.

Re: Snake boots

I have some Danner snake boots that are extremely comfortable and waterproof. Never used them for cactus and have not been bitten (thank god) I have used filson double tin leggins that might help with the thorns, don't know

+1 I can confirm that cactus will go through the snake boots while out hunting antelope the last couple of days. Lots of cactus no tag filled.

Got a link to actually makes them? A quick google really wasn't enlightening.

Re: Snake boots

I bought a pair of the Rocky side zipper snake boots this year after 2 close calls while hunting hogs in the swamps last year. They are comfortable enough to walk long distances in, required very little break in, and on the second day out wearing them stopped a 2&1/2 foot copperhead from ruining my day. He bit me on the ankle, I could feel both his teeth but no harm, no foul(except for him, he died in a tragic accident shortly after).

Re: Snake boots

+1 on the side zip Rocky's. Easy on and off. Have walked all night in these without problems, very comfortable. Those boots have fended off numerous hits from snakes at night without a problem. Haven't had to test them on a 7' rattler....hope I never do.
