I'm on the hunt for a tripod setup. The purpose of this tripod would be to support observation gear (spotting scope, rangefinder, binoculars, kestrel, etc.). It would be used out at the range or out hunting. I've seen several options for setting up observation "stations" like the gray ops plate and mod dos. Then I came across this product in another thread.

I think the design is very interesting. I like how you can progressively add heads to mount multiple pieces of equipment. I also like how it seems to break down into a very packable size. I found another thread asking about it, but it was 6 years old. So, I thought I would bring it up again. Is anyone using one of these tripods? If so, do you like it? Are there things you don't like?

It looks like a short version of spotting scope stands used in NRA High Power/Service Rifle matches.

I have it. I use it on occasion. It’s a good design. Sturdy. Compact. Not the lightest. It’s not as easy to use by yourself as it appears. It’s not like you can have it right next to you and quickly switch from rifle to spotter. It’s better to have a dedicated spotter using it and calling your shots. I use it for recording and having the ability to mount a kestrel weather vane on top is a bonus. There is another thread here where I posted a picture of my setup, I don’t have one available atm, as I am on the road working.

Do you use the stabilizer weight or is it pretty solid without it?

You only need the weight of you are using it in the tall configuration, like if you set it up to stand behind it. I mostly use it in the prone or ona a bench top so I don’t even have the weight. If I’m going to be standing I use a real tripod with wider legs for stability

Just to cover the bases. Does anyone know of any similar alternatives? By similar I mean modularity for multiple pieces of equipment. It can have a more traditional tripod design.
