APS – 22LR Tac/Prec Match Report – 04/04/09
On April 4, 2009 we had our monthly 22LR Tac/Prec Rifle Match at A Place to Shoot. We had a 12:00 noon start time, with shooters being allowed an open range before hand to zero. Today’s weather was a typical Southern California spring day – sunny, highs in the 60s, with some wind throughout most of the match.
Plaques were awarded to the top three competitors as follows: First Place – Henry Song; Second Place – Mark Edgreen; Third Place – Alan Campell.
The following is a breakdown of the courses of fire:
*The competitors did not zero their weapons as part of the match. However, prior to the match targets had been set up for them at yardages 50, 75, and 100 yards for all to check zeroes.
** All stages have a 1-minute par time.
Stage I – 25 YARD 5 DOT DRILL
In this stage the shooters engaged five ½ in dots in one inch circles from the prone position at 50 yards with a 60 second par time. A hit on the ½ inch dot scored 20 points and inside the circle only scored 10 points.
Stage II – 50 YARD 5 DOT DRILL – STRONG SIDE
In this stage the shooters engaged five 1in dots from the strong side prone from 50 yards with a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 20 points.
STAGE III – KNOW YOUR LIMIT – 50 YARDS
This stage was a “know your limit” with a total of five dots decreasing in size. The rules were that you could stop anywhere in the process you wanted but if you missed you zeroed your score for the entire target. A couple of shooters took two shots and stopped. Several shooters took the risk and hit three and one person hit four of the five.
Stage IV – 50 YARD 5 DOT DRILL – WEAK SIDE
In this stage the shooters engaged five 1in dots from the weak side prone from 50 yards with a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 20 points.
STAGE V – DUAL HOSTAGES – 50 YARDS
In this stage the shooters encountered two hostage targets putting three rounds into the bad guy on the first and two in the second. If they hit the hostage on either target they received a zero for the stage. To make matters worse this was shot lying on top of a gravel pile. All shooters did very well and I’m pleased to announce only 1 out of 26 hostages was injured.
STAGE VI – 155 YARD STEEL
In this course of fire the competitors engaged a swinging steel chicken silhouette at 155 yards from a standing supported. This was scored as decreasing count – 100 points for a first round hit; 50 for a second round hit; and 25 for a third round hit.
STAGE VII – OFF HAND – 50 YARDS
In this stage the shooters engaged a 5.5” target, from the standing position with a total of five shots.
Stage VIII – 75 YARD SWINGERS
In this stage the shooters engaged four 1.25” swinging targets at 75 yards from a prone position. The targets were on the creek back partially covered with bushes.
STAGE XI – 90 YARD STEEL
In this course of fire the competitors engaged a swinging steel chicken silhouette at 90 yards from a kneeling supported position. This was scored as decreasing count – 100 points for a first round hit; 50 for a second round hit; and 25 for a third round hit.
STAGE X – 130 YARD STEEL
In this course of fire the competitors engaged a swinging 10” plate at 130 yards on the side of a hill leaning on the back of a trailer. This was scored as decreasing count – 100 points for a first round hit; 50 for a second round hit; and 25 for a third round hit.
All in all it was a very good match and all did very well.
