So, as some of you may know Colt is halting production of their long guns to be sold on the public market. They claim that they are trying to regain their ground for MIL contracts. As most are aware they have also been struggling for quite some time. However, the last time they did this postering it nearly made them close the doors. Seems like a stupid move to do so again. So my question to you guys is do you think that they are doing this as a sales ploy? Or, are they doing all they can to save the brand and focusing on handguns alone? Or, are they caving to pressure from antigun groups? Or, did they catch wind of some gun control that is about to pass and are repositioning beforehand? Let’s hear it, what’s your theories? All I know is they haven’t made anything groundbreaking in a long long time and they are in a super competitive market so...

Even then, 90% is speculation. My belief is that some SJW-simp freak has taken over the decision making part of the company and is either afraid of pressure from civilian disarmament groups, or more realistically, want to aid in the civilian gun ban effort.

Chris Bartocci has an excellent video explaining what went wrong, and so badly wrong, at COLT. As per the usual, the line workers are not at all to blame...management rested far too long on Colt's legacy, got fat happy and complacent on Uncle Sugar's payroll. Innovation went out the window as well as any perceived need to compete.

Colt's ARs they are still making are just fine and dandy and I still recommend them when people ask, "What is the first AR I should buy?"

Just sad that they have made so many idiotic management/strategic decisions.

How big is that market, compared to the ar15 market? Let’s face it, when Colt halts rifle sales, they are halting ar15 sales. How big is that market relative to the plastic striker fired semi auto market? Yeah, both of those markets are slam-crushed with competition, and Colt probably owns/ed the wheel gun market, but I just don’t see that being a volume leader in 2019. The truth is that Colt is a shallow husk of what it once was. It is a brand name owned by a conglomerate, whose only goal is to suck the value from the company before moving on to the next victim, I mean acquisition.

All the innovation has came from companys like BCM, Noveske, Daniel defense, Knight's etc. the AR market is not what it used to be, there are many more players now. If they would burn to the ground like remmington, it would make me happy to be honest. Their management has zero common sense. When you have to sustain a company with a gov contract, it shows how weak your position is in every gun market category. Do any of us really fawn over a new toy from them ? not me. Why buy an AR that looks like its from the 80's when there is BCM etc with a nice rail/stock/flash hider on it for a few bones more. To make things worse, they don't even make the guns we really want.

Thing is last I understand they are building the best product they have in a long time.

Their primary pistol product is just out of favor with the current market - the majority want to buy plastic.

Their rifles are still the standard but they are limited in their offerings. They are not builder friendly.

Its too conservative a model.

They just need to shed some of their old school yankee ways.

Colt wants to provide you with what they think you need.

Guessing their liability lawyers believe that is best for them.

Colt should be pushing 9mm 1911s and create an online entity for buying parts both stock and custom. Their current online store sucked last I checked.

Regards creating demand........Id sure like to pick up a basic 6920.

There is an excellent lesson in how capitalism provides to the market what the market demands in this. It also proves the folly of government subsidizing of technologies.

A bunch of states go ape shit and magically label rifles with removable magazines as "unlawful".

Within a relatively short period of time a work around is "innovated" so that the "demands", "the wants", "the desires" of the people can be fulfilled - shark fin, bullet button, stripper magazine.

No government subsidy was needed.

A vacuum existed in a demand area and entrepreneurs quickly stepped in to exploit it.

Im guessing no vacuum exists for electric cars, wind power generation, solar panels, or energy saver light bulbs.

The only way to try and get consumers to use those products was by giving them direct credits.

Which of course the manufacturers of the coerced products than said "No need to be efficient or even innovative here, we already start off in the black because the government is in a sense paying us ahead the first percentage of the product"

Was looking at COLT rifle listings on gun.deals last night to get a sense of what is in stock and available and noticed OEM-1 and 2 are out of OOS everywhere, but there are 6920s avaialable in many places, etc.

Still waiting for more hard proof/evidence of Colt "shutting down" civilian production.
