I probably don't have to say this, but please make sure you have a safe area to do this in. I remember when we first started getting into archery, my dad let his friend shoot his bow. This guy was massive and couldn't pull back a 65lb bow, he gave up just before the let off point, accidentally loosed the arrow and it flew a good 500 yards into a field where some people were picking up trash from the desert. When we found the arrow it was only 20 yards away from a group of two people who were completly clueless as to what had transpired.
Something much worse could've happened, but we got extremely lucky that day. From there on out we checked our backdrop every time before shooting anything.
My biggest regret is not telling the man he needed to keep his bow hand outstretched and on target while drawing back.
