APS – Tactical / Precision Rimfire Match – AAR – 12/05/09
On December 5, 2009 we held our monthly 22LR Tac/Prec Match at A Place to Shoot. We started around 12:30 and finished around 4:30p.m. Shooters were allowed an open range before hand to zero. The weather was cool with highs in the 60s, overcast, and wind was present as is usual for an afternoon at APTS.
Trophies were awarded to the top three competitors as follows: First Place – Henry Song; Second Place: Devin Dolan; Third Place – Steve Raeder.
The following is a breakdown of the courses of fire:
*The competitors did not zero their weapons as part of the match. However, prior to the match targets had been set up for them at yardages 50, 75, and 100 yards for all to check zeroes.
** All stages have a 1-minute par time unless indicated.
Stage I - 50 YARD FIGHTING TOOTH DECAY
In this stage the shooters engaged five stick suckers on a frame from an improvised position over a wall at 50 yards. The suckers themselves measured 1” in diameter. A hit sucker scored 20 points. (These are very reactive making a nice bluish powder when hit no matter what flavor)
Stage II – 50 YARD 5 DOT DRILL – STONG SIDE
In this stage the shooters engaged five 1 in dots from the strong side prone from 50 yards with a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 20 points
Stage III – KNOW YOUR LIMITS – 50 YARDS
This stage was a “know your limits” with a total of five dots decreasing in size – 2”, 1.5”, 1”, ½”, ¼”. The rules were that you could stop anywhere in the process you wanted but if you missed you zeroed your score for the entire target. We had one person clean this stage.
Stage IV – 50 YARD 5 DOT DRILL – WEAK SIDE
In this stage the shooters engaged five 1 in dots from the weak side prone from 50 yards with a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 20 points
Stage 5 – SHAPES – 75 YARDS
In this stage the shooters engaged five designated shapes averaging 1’ in size in prone from 75 yards with a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 20 points. With a bonus shape worth an additional 20 points if the first five were hit.
Stage VI- POKER
In this stage the shooters engaged a target of playing cards with five rounds to build the best poker hand they could in prone from 75 yards with a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 20 points. In the event of a tie for the top three match awards the best hand from this stage would decide the tie.
Stage VII – 100 YARD STEEL POPPER - PRONE
In this stage the shooters engaged a popper (approx 3” wide) from the strong side prone from 100 yards with four rounds and a 60 second par time. Each hit was worth 25 points
