some ban era goodness

I have a post ban Colt "Match Target Competition" as well. Sent the barrel off and had it threaded, it now wears a YHM flash hider/QD adapter for my 7.62 Phantom. Far as I can tell, all the name means is that it was a 20" HBAR that would qualify for use in service rifle matches. I have seen zero evidence it might be any more accurate than any other AR15.

My brother bought one of those Ban-era 16” neutered Bushmasters.

I replaced the barrel and upper with a 16” fluted and threaded Bushmaster barrel and M4 upper, with a JP rifle handguard with FSB pocket cut.

I took the non-threaded heavy CLGS 16” barrel, sent it off to Precision Firearms for custom length, profiling, fluting, dimpling, and threading, then Cerakoted it. Turned out to be pretty lightweight, very accurate.

I was going to do a 605B Dissipator with it, which is why I had the front profiled to .625” with a shoulder. Instead, that 605B will be done in another caliber.

Remember these?

This nostalgic mind-trip makes me think…. I have a lot of AR platform guns, but none with the old style stock, front sight and hand guard.

Hmmm. I also have several un-built uppers and lowers in my safe. I might have to build a throw-back classic gun.

You haven’t been exposed to the Retro form of BRD yet?

LRRPF52,

Nope! And I had to google it up. I found Black Rifle Depot. Is that what you referred to?

And It might be an expensive find. Thanks for helping me spend money….!

I was wrong. I do have one upper with standard hand guard and front sight post. It is my 9mm carbine, but I’ve SBRd the lower and now have a short, suppressed upper on it.

BRD = Black Rifle Disease, where the AR-15s keep replicating like Gremlins.

Funny thing, I just saw an OD Green furniture Dissipator at Cabella’s yesterday.

I somehow got into 605s in the late 2000s. The Colt Model 605 was the first Carbine in the AR-15 series, as part of the CAR-15 family of weapons. It was meant to be an Infantry Laader’s Carbine. There was a 605A and 605B, with the 605B having a 4-Way fire control group that had SAFE-AUTO-SEMI-BURST and you could go both directions with the selector, regardless of position.
