some torquing tools I can afford and use only once

I got my new stock, rings, base and all the goodies coming, but I don't have any tools to properly torque the stuff down.

they're expensive as hell, and I'll only use the stuff once, maybe twice.

so I was curious if there is anything equivalent at like say home depot that's perhaps isn't as good, but def not like 90 dollars like the leupold one....

I think I also need a few, the stock is more to torque down, and the rings/base isn't as high tq so...

so if there are any cheaper alternatives, I'd like to know!

perhaps someone has one that they can lend, and when I use it, i can mail it back?

Why do you say you will only use it once or twice? What about periodically checking torque?

I would give Borka a hard look. Also, if you really won't ever use it again, you can greatly reduce your investment buying it and then selling it when you are done. Personally I would buy the Borka and keep it...

you're right, I'll check periodically. but I'm still not ready to put so much money into a few tools. for now... and I need it, now. LOL

how much in/tq does a stock usually take? specifically it's the B&C Medalist A2 stock if that matters.

what about base and rings? what do those require.

again, sepcifically. Warne Maxima rings (34mm) and the TPS steel base.

trying to see if that wheeler 10-65 in/tq one is sufficient

I supply "economy" version of Borka Tools MG (military grade) driver for Brownells - no adapters, no SRA (accessories) pack, no carry pouch, just a multi torque driver in plastic tool tube. You do need to have all required bits, adapters and sockets for your rifle.

I can get that one for 57 bucks (plus shipping) from brownells.

seems like a good deal. I have a ton of bits, and I'm sure I have all the ones I need somewhere in the my toolbox

That borker has some odd adjustment points. (15/18/21/24/27/30/36/43/50/57/65/72 in-lbs Torque)

the wheeler is 10-65 at 5 intervals. perhaps the borker's adjustment points are made for common torque points for firearms?

the brownell -737 one. is that the etched one, or the unetched one?

$57 is an extremely good deal, go for it.

ALL BRAND NEW Borka Tools drivers, sold by Borka Tools and any dealers, including Brownells, have laser etched torque settings from June of 2010.

FAT works fine. is it accurate to its readings? no clue. does it do the same on both action screws or each scope scap screw repeatably? not a clue. do i feel better and is it more consistant than my fingers? yup. also i was gonna say i have bought several tools i swore i would only use once. i have never used them only once.

The key is to shop for tools from tool stores, not gun stores:

$20.71ea and accomplishes the task required (assuming the operator properly sets the tool). Depending on the application you may need a short 1/4" extension. Put your driver bits in a 1/4" socket.

This is the wrench that I use.

If there is a real tool store near you (not Lowes or Home Depot or Ace, looked at all three with no luck) you might call them and ask if they carry in/lb rated torque wrenches.

Get the Borka, it works fine and is convenient. You'll use it more than once.

For cap screws just trust your built-in Mk 1, Mod 1, brain pan-activated digit-based torque meter. Hold the allen key by the short end between thumb and forefinger and turn until you thing you've got 15 LBS. on it. Then resist that OCD urge to give it another twist.

Honestly for the price and convenience of the Borka its money well spent.
Its small, easy to carry and use and its supporting one of the Hide's great vendors.
